Compass Finance
AI-powered financial insights and VAT visibility for SMEs
“AI finance tool” is too generic.
The stronger angle is much more specific: finance reports for UAE small businesses.
That feedback made sense. UAE SMEs deal with local bank statements, VAT records, FTA filing pressure, and messy bookkeeping workflows that global tools do not really speak to.
So I wrote up the sharper version here:
The basic idea: upload a bank statement, get a clear owner report for revenue, expenses, profit, cash flow, invoices, and tax signals.
Curious if this positioning feels clearer than “AI finance tool for SMEs.”
Most small businesses don’t actually know where their money is going.
Not because they’re careless.
Because financial visibility is fragmented across:
bank statements
POS systems
invoices
accountants
spreadsheets
By the time reports are ready, the decisions are already late.
That’s why I started building Compass Finance.
An AI-powered platform that helps SMEs automatically understand:
cash flow
revenue trends
expenses
VAT signals
business performance
Starting with UAE SMEs first.
Still early, but excited to finally put this out publicly 🚀

The phrase 'By the time reports are ready, the decisions are already late' hits the nail on the head. For most small business owners or solo builders, looking at financial health through a rearview mirror at the end of the month is incredibly stressful.
The real integration nightmare isn't just pulling the data, but formatting the messy schema mismatches between bank statements and separate invoice processors. If an AI layer can automatically sanitize and reconcile those fragmented inputs in real-time, it completely changes how a founder manages their weekly runway. Starting with a focused region like UAE SMEs is a very smart go-to-market play. Congrats on the public ship!

Thanks Eva, really appreciate this.
Yeah, that is exactly the problem I keep seeing. The data exists, but it is scattered across bank statements, invoices, payment processors, and spreadsheets. By the time it is cleaned up, the owner has already made the decision blind.
I started with bank statements because almost every small business has them, even if they do not have proper accounting set up yet. The goal is to give owners a clear weekly picture first, then build from there.
And yes, UAE SMEs feel like the right starting point because VAT, bank formats, and local filing pressure make the problem much more specific.

The fragmentation problem is real. UAE-first is the actual wedge — but it's buried as an afterthought while you led with "AI-powered platform" which every fintech says.
UAE-specific = the wedge. VAT compliance, local banking APIs (Emirates NBD, ADCB, FAB), Arabic language, local accountant workflow — global tools don't serve any of these well.
The category itself is crowded — Helu, Mosaic, Causal, Finmark, Pilot, Bench all live here. Generic "AI for SME finance" loses to specialists.
But UAE localization is the moat none of them have. Lead with that: "the cash flow and VAT tool built for UAE SMEs by people who deal with FTA filing every quarter." Specific buyer, specific job, specific local pain.
AI is the how, not the what.

This is really fair, and I think you are right.
I probably leaned too much on “AI powered” because that explains how it works, but it does not explain why someone should care.
The UAE angle is the stronger point. Small businesses here have very specific problems around VAT, FTA filings, local bank statements, and messy records. That is much sharper than saying “AI finance tool for SMEs.”
I am going to tighten the positioning around that. AI is just the mechanism. The actual promise should be clearer finances for UAE small businesses before things become a month end headache.
Appreciate the direct feedback.

Glad it landed. The "mechanism vs promise" distinction extends beyond your case — most AI-first launches make this mistake. The mechanism is invisible to the buyer. The outcome is what they care about.
Your refined framing is sharper but still slightly abstract. More visceral options:
"FTA-compliant cash flow for UAE SMEs"
"Stop redoing your VAT submission every quarter"
"UAE SME finance OS — VAT, banking, accountant workflow in one"Next layer: which UAE SME specifically? Different sub-segments need different positioning:
Free zone solo ($10-50K) — DIY, price-sensitive
Mainland family business ($50-500K) — accountant is the buyer
Tech-enabled retail SME ($100K+) — POS integration matters
Service businesses — invoicing/VAT focus
E-commerce SMEs — Shopify + UAE bankingUAE-specific positioning unlocks UAE-specific distribution generic "AI for SMEs" can't access: DIFC/DMCC free zone communities, UAE accountant referral networks, local business chambers, DubaiSME and RAKEZ programs.
Distribution wedge follows positioning wedge.
What's the specific UAE SME profile you're starting with? Answer determines whether next thing you ship is self-serve onboarding or accountant-partnership tooling.

Over the last few years, I worked around small businesses through finance, consulting, and operations roles, and I kept seeing the same issue: business owners had financial data everywhere but very little real visibility into what was happening in their business.
Compass Finance is an AI-powered platform that helps SMEs turn bank statements and financial data into automated insights around revenue, cash flow, expenses, and VAT visibility without relying on spreadsheets or complicated bookkeeping workflows.
Currently focused on helping UAE SMEs simplify financial monitoring and reporting.
Would love feedback from founders, operators, and finance professionals.

It's definitely clearer than "AI finance tool."
The thing I'd still pressure-test is whether UAE SMEs are the positioning or just the geography.
A lot of founders narrow the market and assume the positioning is now solved, when the harder question is what specific financial moment makes someone upload a statement in the first place.
I wouldn't try to solve that casually in the thread because the answer affects the homepage, acquisition, and what users expect the report to do.
If useful, share your email and I'll send the tighter version in a way you can actually use rather than crowding the thread.
