A guide to serverless Python web applications.

August 12, 2019 After 6 months of work, I finally released a book!

I did the thing that everyone says you shouldn't do -- I spent 6 months writing a book without getting market validation. I'd been building Python apps on top of AWS Lambda using Flask, and I thought it would be really cool to release a step-by-step guide to building your own serverless Flask web apps, so I did. It took a lot longer than I anticipated, and I think there's some sales flow refinements that I can do, but it's live: https://compellingpython.com/

I got three good technical reviewers to look through it, so I believe the content is solid, but if you check it out please let me know where improvements can be made! Thanks, this is my first product of this type.

Congrats dude! Writing a book is a big deal :) Hope it does well!

Give me a table of contents and the free chapter and I will seriously consider during the release time even though I am trying to learn node.js with lambda.

Congrats on the book. I recommend redesigning your site. I would definitely have a picture of the book's cover on the website for sure.

Thanks Brandon! Other than adding a cover, was there anything specific that turned you off about the design?

Yes it is just a big wall of text. I would add bolded headers and maybe other things to break it up. So the user can grab some information about what it's about. The big wall of text is intimidating and unless someone is really interested there just gonna click off. But again congrats on the book, just a few improvements to the site would go a long way seriously.

Thanks, that's something to think about. I didn't realize at first that the mental model that people have about books gets shifted around when you're buying access to a site -- it seems like for physical books (and ebooks bought on the Kindle store) social proof is the most important thing, but for a book distributed like mine there's more expectation of something free up front. I think that's reasonable, but will have to think about how to rearrange the site flow to accommodate it.

You're obviously right, just goes to show how long it's been since I've been in a bookstore.
