competitor snap
turn weeks of research into minutes of clarity
not just finding them - that part is easy.
i mean understanding things like:
what they really do
how they position themselves
what they’re strong or weak at
where the gaps in the market actually are
every time i try to do this, it turns into hours of:
open tabs, messy notes, screenshots, random docs.
so i’m curious - how do you personally approach competitor research?
do you:
• manually analyze 4-5 companies deeply
• just skim their websites and messaging
• use tools/frameworks
• or mostly rely on intuition over time?
asking because my team and i have been building something to structure this process (called competitor snap - https://www.competitorsnap.com/), but we’re still trying to understand how people actually do this as off today.
would love to hear how others approach it.
hey everyone 👋
i’ve been spending time trying to understand how people actually make sense of competitors - whether it’s before launching, refining positioning, or just figuring out where they stand.
and honestly, it still feels pretty scattered.
you can find competitors easily, but actually breaking down what they do, how they position themselves, what they’re good at, where they’re weak… that usually takes a lot of time and a thorough research.
so i with my team started building something called competitor snap.
you put in an idea or a website, and it generates structured competitor profiles - things like:
what each competitor actually does
their core positioning/messaging
strengths and weaknesses
how they’re trying to differentiate
the goal is to make it easier to compare and spot gaps quickly, without doing hours of manual research.
we are still figuring out if this is actually useful in practice or just sounds useful in theory.
would something like this be helpful in your workflow?
or do you only really understand competitors by digging in manually over time?
would really appreciate honest thoughts 🙏
happy to share it if anyone wants to try!

Turning research into clarity is a strong value prop — how are you planning to get this in front of your first users?

great question - we’re still experimenting.
right now the focus is mainly:
• sharing in founder communities where people are actively validating ideas (indie hackers, reddit, etc.)
• engaging in discussions where people are already trying to understand competitors
• a few small launches on directories like product hunt to see how people reacthonestly the goal right now isn’t scale - it’s figuring out if the output is actually useful or if people still prefer doing competitor research manually.
curious how you currently approach competitor analysis?

i’ve seen strong products struggle not because the idea was wrong, but because they didn’t fully understand their market. competitor snap exists to bring that clarity earlier, before time and resources are committed.
