Complete Garden Office DIY Build Guide

Had a good summer of it, sold enough copies to make the project worthwhile. Nothing crazy, just paid for the time spent doing it. Also sold some copies of the bigger model too, during and following the pre-sale, which was nice to do.

Unless the really well prepared are going to start buying now for building in spring, seems like there's a cycle here. Although I did drop off search results a little, maybe by not keeping up the blogging in other areas. National press was a nice uplift though, see if I can't maintain this level of traffic for 2022.

It's a pain because it's not my website's main keyword. Ideally I'd like to be found for translation, but I'll take what I'm given!

Next plan is to write up and publish the Extension Costs guide and start to promote that. Perhaps they'll end up cross-promoting each other. Will keep that under this project milestones list.

As the WFH trend continues through the pandemic, so people continue to want to make the most of their outdoor space.

I now have plans for a similar product based around house extensions, having kept detailed notes and costings of our own build over the last 6 months. I'll likely roll that product into this one and track revenue together.

Used a more catchy title, although it doesn't match original, so will see if that flies or not.

Hoping for a small uplift in hits. It's USA morning now, UK afternoon.

What's nice in HN is you get fed back out to a bunch of HN-reader sites for additional backlinks, although I've no idea of their quality, it's a little more exposure.

Released on the Friday, into new record for traffic on the site over that weekend due to working with a PR company who got me a 79+ DA backlink to national press (zero cost, was for another company's benefit - no personal connections). That Monday, first sale landed.

Drew up 3D plans, produced a 30 page guide including all tools, techniques and parts required to build a big, insulated, secure garden office for just £3000.

Put it on sale a week or so after completing all the various parts. Set pricing to tiered as per advised for last decade from digital product sellers. Just the cutting/parts list, list and guide, custom lists and guide.

Was on a different domain that I was using to test the waters on some affiliate stuff. Gave that up and saved the site. Re-published the post when WFH started to be mentioned more in pandemic, then started receiving decent traffic soon after.

Had also reworked SEO of the personal site I'm hosting it on to play better with Google. It's a static site so scores well on pagespeed but needed some custom work for SEO.
