July 14, 2026 I think we're building the wrong marketplaces for the AI era.

Over the last year, AI coding tools like Cursor, Claude, Replit, Lovable, Bolt, and v0 have made it incredibly easy to build an MVP.

But I've noticed a different problem.

A huge number of projects never make it past version 1.

Not because they're bad ideas.

Because the founder:

  • runs out of time,

  • loses motivation,

  • can't find a technical co-founder,

  • needs a different skill set,

  • or simply moves on.

The project just sits in a GitHub repository forever.

Meanwhile, there are developers looking for real products to work on instead of another portfolio project, and investors who want to see startups before they become obvious.

That made me wonder:

Why isn't there a marketplace specifically for unfinished startups?

Not a freelancer marketplace.

Not a job board.

Not an acquisition platform.

Just a place where founders can list projects they can't finish, developers can help build them, and mentors and investors can discover them early.

That's what I'm building: Conex.

The goal isn't to buy or sell startups.

It's to give promising products a second chance instead of letting them die in a private repository.

Riddle me this..

  • Would you ever list an unfinished project?

  • If you're a developer, would you rather work on a real startup than build another demo app?

  • What's the biggest reason you'd not use something like this?

I'd really appreciate your thoughts—positive or critical.

I like that you're reframing unfinished startups as underutilized assets rather than failed projects.

Most products don't die because the underlying idea is disproven—they stop because the founder's circumstances change. If Conex can help separate product potential from founder availability, that's a very different marketplace than buying and selling mature startups.
