ContxtAI is now live on Product Hunt! 🎉

ContxtAI is an open source browser extension that helps you save, organize, and reuse AI context across platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, so you spend less time repeating yourself and more time building.

If you find the idea useful, I’d really appreciate your support with an upvote and any feedback you have. Every bit of support helps improve the project and reach more developers.

Thank you!

July 24, 2026 Do you switch between ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini? How do you manage project context?

I’ve been using multiple AI assistants for coding, writing, and planning, and I kept running into the same problem: every new conversation meant re-explaining my project, preferences, and goals.

So I built ContxtAI, a free, open-source Chrome extension that lets you save reusable context profiles and use them across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini while keeping everything local and private.

I’d love to hear how others are solving this today. Are you relying on ChatGPT Memory, Claude Projects, giant prompt files, or something else?

"Stop repeating yourself" — but who feels this pain most? Power users with complex workflows, or casual users who keep forgetting what they asked? The first wants memory and context, the second wants simpler prompts. Different fixes.

Spot on. ContxtAI is built precisely for that first group: the power users.

When you're deep into building something complex—like a large-scale web application or a comprehensive marketing campaign—the real friction isn't typing the prompt. It's the exhaustion of constantly re-explaining your constraints, architecture, and preferences every time you start a new session.

Furthermore, power users don't just stick to one tool. They actively switch between platforms to collaborate, bounce ideas around, and get second opinions based on a specific model's expertise.

Simpler prompts solve a usability problem for casual users. Portable memory solves a fundamental workflow problem for builders.

"Portable memory solves a fundamental workflow problem for builders" — that's your pitch right there. But are you selling to individual builders who'll pay $20/month, or teams who need shared context across multiple tools? The first wants personal memory. The second wants institutional knowledge that survives employee turnover. Same feature, two different prices and two different sales cycles.

Right now, ContxtAI is strictly an open-source initiative built for individual AI power users. The core focus is solving the personal workflow friction for builders who collaborate across different models daily. Institutional memory for teams is a great idea for down the road, but nailing personal memory comes first.

Smart prioritization — personal memory first, team later. Since you're open-source, the question becomes: who's funding the project? Grants, donations, or building toward a commercial version? If it's the third, I'd recommend simulating which of your power users would actually pay for a hosted/team version before you build it. I've seen too many open-source projects go commercial and discover their users expected free forever. Happy to share what I'd find if useful — no pitch, just data.

Sharing context across multiple AI assistants is a meaningful problem to tackle.

What convinced you that people want a context layer that sits above the models, rather than eventually standardizing on a single assistant as their primary workspace?

    1. 1

That’s a fair point, but for me, the need for a separate layer comes down to model specialization and avoiding vendor lock-in.

Standardizing on one assistant sounds ideal, but the day-to-day reality is that different models excel at completely different tasks.

Because the "best" model in the space changes constantly, an independent context layer lets you instantly pivot to whoever is leading the pack. It keeps your workspace portable and entirely in your control.

      1. 1

        Appreciate the context.

Would be good to continue the conversation as you learn how users respond to that model.

What's the best email to reach you on?

About

I built ContxtAI because I was tired of rewriting the same project context every time I switched between ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Instead of relying on platform-specific memory, I wanted a way to own my AI context.
