December 17, 2020 GitHub announces their removal of tracking cookies

After so many praised GitHub for the move, it reinforced to me that people actually do care about their privacy and being tracked online.

Seeing such a large company do this, and having so many applaud GitHub for it made me realize that there were would be a good portion of the population for whom this would be valuble.

Though there have been other companies that have done this already (like Basecamp), GitHub doing this was big because there was more press surrounding it, particularly in tech.

January 4, 2018 The idea is born

Don’t quote me on this date specifically—I think it actually happened way before this. But for years now I’ve wanted to create a crowdsourced directory of products, services, and companies that don’t track you all over the web.

Not only is this good for consumers, but it also helps the companies/indie hackers because they make money from that product or service, rather than from the sale of our data.

Amplifying good business models should never go out of style.
