Top writers. For $150/mo.
We officially launched on BetaList and within the next couple of days. This multiplied our traffic threw the roof - granted we didn't do any market at all before this.
After only a day, we were the #1 trending startup. Though it was interesting to see, the sales weren't coming in. We had plenty of users sign up for our pay per use plan, but not many committing to actually requesting articles.
What did we learn?
Major nono UX flaws in the dashboard that should've been fleshed out before.
But above all else, our pricing strategy.
Our next step will be to interview those that did sign up and receive feedback.
Stay tuned for more deets.
We're lucky to have a basic development background. Hiring a web developer and together we started building out the main features that needed to be perfect. Extra fluff was sidelined.
Our landing page needed to be prestine with the value proposition clearly highlighted and explained. Compared to some other landing pages from other SaaS's, we weren't afraid to put more copy on the page (as long as it was concise).
It ended up working, of the initial 30-40 page views, about 60% of users scrolled from the very top to the bottom with an average user session close to a minute. This was pretty promising for a start with just a landing page.
Over the course of the next few months, we developed the web app that manages user submissions, customer requests, etc. It wasn't pretty, but we managed to get to the MVP stage.

My co-founder (John) and I are freelance technical writers on the side. As we sought feedback (through email's, phone interviews) from our customers on the quality of work, they were glad they paid a premium to receive better content.
This lead us to our most significant pain point we've always had in our gut feeling.
It used to be a hit-or-miss with freelance copywriters, and the value of hiring someone cheap can end up costing more in terms of headaches and brand equity.
After researching service offerings out there, it's clear there were many run-of-the-mill content providing services out there, but none that really measured up to the expectation of producing quality and professional content. This was our opportunity space.
Although John and I had a good client-base and a decent reputation, we needed to build a platform to scale in order to bring upon impact.
