December 26, 2023 Last post of the year

First we want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year πŸŽ„

Today we released another update of our extension, but we would like to summarize the results of the year and get a little nostalgic.

We started this year with 1000 users and absolutely did not understand what to do next and how to grow. We changed, we analyzed, but most of our efforts did not lead to results.

In the end we decided to change everything. It was hard to throw away months of development, but it was the only way to survive.

We flipped the concept and started emphasizing integration with Open AI. At the moment we have not realized even 10% of what we planned, but now we see that we are going in the right direction and we really hope that in the new year we will be able to make a really good and useful project.

What we have today:

  • 11,000 users
  • The "Google Editor's Choice" bar.
  • A ton of feedback
  • A ton of tasks
  • $0 net profit (but that's forgivable, we don't even have monetization yet)

We wish everyone success with their projects. After all, it is indeed a very challenging and noble endeavor to create something from scratch.

See you next year 😎

November 14, 2023 A major upgrade and Editor's Picks

We recently released a major update and just now got around to writing about it.

We can list a lot of things that have changed, but the main thing is that we started using ChatGPT features for our extension.

This is the first version and in it we added support for chatting on any topic and checking messages for correctness. Of course, this is the minimum functionality that we are not going to stop on and will soon release a lot of interesting updates.

We are also very pleased that Google noticed us and added us to the "Editor's Choice" selection

September 10, 2023 Pivot

A couple of months ago, we realized we had reached an impasse. Retention was low, we couldn't retain users. Our main competitors were shutting down their projects.

We made a decision to abandon our current concept and continue searching for our product market fit.

We rebuilt our extension from scratch. It's been a month since the last update and we are finally seeing an increase in all metrics.
This is nothing short of encouraging, but there is still a lot of work ahead. We really need your feedback.

What corgi is doing now:

  • You have the ability to translate any words on the site and add them to your study
  • If you are learning a language somewhere else you can add any words to Corgi to learn
  • If we come across words you've added on any site, we'll highlight them in the text. When you hover over these words you will need to select the correct translation of that word
  • You can also learn these words in the extension itself in a special word trainer.

This is our first updated version and we definitely don't plan to stop here :)

April 30, 2023 Introducing Corgi

We have been working on Corgi for approximately a year during our free time.

For our initial post, we would like to provide a brief overview of our browser extension, including its purpose and the individuals who can take advantage of its features.

  • Corgi automatically translates multiple words in the language you are learning on any website and highlights them in the text. Upon hovering over the word, its translation becomes visible.

  • You can add these words to your study list, and the next time you encounter them on a website, they will be highlighted in a different color. Hovering the mouse cursor over them will allow you to select the correct translation.

  • Additionally, you can learn these words through games or within the extension. Designing games is quite complex, but we strive to regularly include new games and features to satisfy you.

  • If you are learning a language from other sources or want to add your own words to the extension, that's not an issue. You can manually add words that will appear in priority order on websites, aiding you in memorizing them as quickly as possible.

  • We have incorporated flexible exclusion settings in Corgi that enable you to choose which websites to utilize the extension on. You can configure Corgi to operate solely on specific sites or, conversely, not function on particular sites added to your exclusion list.

  • We have also introduced a charitable feature to our extension to motivate people to learn foreign languages. For every 50 words you learn, we will donate money to PlasticBank, which is fighting ocean plastic. Every 50 words equates to one plastic bottle. It's not a daunting task for us, but we are happy to contribute our part towards solving the issue.

We support learning multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Chinese (simplified), Korean, and Japanese.

Nice UI. I would suggest to remove the translation box when the user clicks outside of the box, so it doesn't cover the text on the page.

      Thanks for feedback!
Yes, we will definitely do that in the next update :)

About

We believe that the majority of techniques used for acquiring new foreign vocabulary are insufficient in their efficacy. This is precisely why we have developed Corgi - to revolutionize this process.
