After being close to 100 active for quite a while, our AI generator tripled the pace of new subscribers joining Coverr+ and we're now well over 100 active subscribers! Here's to hitting 200!
We launched our AI video generator, powered by 3rd party APIs, available only to Coverr+ subscribers. This is pretty exciting as it enables our users who often can't find what they need, to simply create it.
🐣 Origin story
Coverr was born with a simple mission: to provide free, high-quality videos to everyone. Lately, we started experimenting with AI-generated videos alongside our production efforts. We quickly realized how challenging it was to create something truly beautiful and consistent. Unlike images, generating high-quality AI videos involves deeper knowledge and multiple steps—creating an image, upscaling, transforming it into video, and more.
But we also saw something else: a huge willingness among AI creators to share their work. This is the first time Coverr is accepting contributions, and the enthusiasm has been incredible—especially from the Twitter community. With AI Workflows, we wanted to create a place where creators could not only share their videos but also the workflows behind them, whether it took one tool or five.

Share and learn workflows: See how others created their AI videos and share your own steps.
Multi-step tools: Use any combination of tools it took to get that perfect output—AI Workflows is built for that complexity.
Community contributions: Unlike our usual paid productions, this product welcomes community contributions, making it a space for creators to help each other grow.
In May of 2023, for the first time since inception, we started a paid plan, Coverr+. Coverr+ offers access to premium videos, 4K downloads, no ads and more is planned down the road. Coverr's core offering is still free videos but it's nice to have a paid tier, as well :)
Since releasing Coverr 2.0 two and half years ago, Coverr gained a lot of traction, in the past year with the pandemic that hit almost every sector, and the fact many productions couldn't really happen ,we've experienced even greater traction with more needs for free high quality video footage. In the past year we gathered a lot of insights as for what creators need, what features, what type of content, what type design works best for them, and more.
Today we're excited to launch Coverr 3.0, which brings very exciting new features and updates
1 - Free Videos API beta - Our videos are now available for you makers through an easy to use API that is of course, Free! it's in beta stage but Google's Web Stories plugin for WordPress is already using it and we'd love to work with more great partners.
2 - Completely new design - We redesigned our site to make the videos more in the front, we removed the clutter, made it more visual. We also rebranded and have a shiny new logo.
3 - Search - We improved our relevancy engine dramatically which is a pretty big deal in a stock footage site.
4 - Browsing - We've added a lot more categories to make browsing by general subjects easier.
5 - Collections - Finally! We now showcase curated collections to address trends and seasonal events. Coming soon: user generated collections. Here's a curated collection For the Makers - https://coverr.co/collections/cu...
6 - 1000s of new beautiful, exclusive videos - That's a big deal, we've added thousands of AMAZING videos, you won't believe they're free.
7 - Dark and light mode- Just so your eyes don't burn as you download our videos late at night :slightly_smiling_face:
3 years after launching Coverr, we had to improve our product which was super basic still, being a side project.
We introduced a bunch of important new features and launched it again on Product Hunt, here were the features the way we announced them:
1 - Search (finally!) - We have a great search engine that makes finding your videos easy and fun.
2 - Vertical videos - we're proud to be the first platform to offer free Vertical videos (!) which is much needed as vertical videos become more and more popular. Check out the "see as coverr" option!
3 - We improved our design.
4 - We added 100s of new videos.
5 - Videos are added more often.
6 - Contributing videos is now easier.
7 - Coverr 2.0 is faster and more stable.
Coverr, a side project offering free videos was passively hunted on PH without any prior planning and exploded with over 2000 upvotes, being #1 product of the day, week and #3 of the month. We got a lot of traffic that we could only dream of and got off to a great start.
