For me this feels like a real launch. While I've worked for many startups, I've never had anything of my own make it onto Product Hunt. And actually I think it's secretly been a small dream of mine for a while now.

I've been working full time as a graphic designer for 8 years, so switching to full time developer was an interesting challenge. I knew a lot of front end, but backend was a bit of a mystery and app development was a complete unknown.
I taught myself all of this as I went, and it was actually an amazing amount of fun. Getting the first build launched was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had.
I have the satisfaction of knowing I pushed myself, and learnt a lot along the way.
As a UX designer I'm no stranger to the value of research and testing. However this is the first time I've ever actually done a private launch to friends and family. I think I expected everyone to be overly polite, but actually their early testing and feedback was invaluable!
The honest feedback of our friends and family was so valuable it helped shaped the finished product in ways we didn't expect. It was also a great stress test for the codes stability.
Even if they aren't your target audience, always test with friends and family.
