I've noticed that I don't have a robots.txt file on the website neither a sitemap.xml file. 😔

I've noticed this thanks to the "Audits" tool in Google Chrome. So I've decided to fix this today by making those.

https://cultural-insights.com/robots.txt

and

https://cultural-insights.com/sitemap.xml

Hopefully Google will now see and index all of my country links which were not indexed up until now (bad).

A nice way of knowing if your site is index on Google is typing site:[your_website_url] in Google Search.

I will be monitoring my website on Google Search in the next few days.

Cheers!

October 26, 2018 Submitted app on BetaList

As I've said before, I need to focus more on the marketing part of things. I'm posting the app everywhere I can in order to figure out the "crowdsourced" part of my web site. Since I seem to be the only one adding some insights since 3-4 days now.

Product Hunt was a good start and it made approximately 400 views on the web site + about 15 users + about 10 insights. Not bad, but not great either.

Also trying to code new feature for the website while freelancing, while doing the marketing stuff, while adding some new insights, while having a life. Not easy but this project is far from being shut down!

October 24, 2018 Adding features is not equal more views

So launching on product hunt was great. It felt like people liked what they saw but I need to make the product better.

The sad thing is that some users won't come back unless I remind them to. Also, making new features won't mean more views. I have to find a way to always keep my users in the loop. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are great for that, but now I need more users that care enough to actually follow me on those platforms.

Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated on the matter. Thanks!

October 23, 2018 First dollar earned

Today marks the first dollar I make as a Maker. Someone just donated 2$ monthly on my patron profile!

Being only the maker of Cultural Insights (for now), this means that someone likes the project enough to give me some money for it.

October 20, 2018 First lesson learned

Having an idea was the easy part. Putting in the work was the hard part. Making mistakes was the hardest part.

After several months of trying to find the best way to make Cultural Insights and trying several options, thus losing a lot of precious time, I came to the conclusion that it simply doesn't matter how you do it as long as you do it fast. It's true. I've spent about a month making an API with Lumen, setting up the database server and the front end server... When all I should have done was a single server that does all that!

Being a Bachelor Engineer in IT, I was always told to make things "by the book". Always thinking about what could possibly go wrong. I've spent countless hours trying to figure that part out. Don't get me wrong, you need to think about what could go wrong, but as someone who's mission should be making something, you must not make the mistake I made: prioritizing that what might go wrong instead of the product itself.

Lesson learned for me. I've launched a product after 6 months. It should have took me about 2...

About

I had a hard time finding anything about cultural behaviours before visiting a country. There's hardly anything about it on the Web.
