Daily Deals for Shopify
Increase your sales by offering new deals to your customers.
Hey everyone!
I've been extremely busy with Daily Deals the last few weeks. The app is centered around flash sales, and BFCM is the top annual period for my app.
I was just browsing Product Hunt yesterday, and I decided what the hell, why not launch?
So here it is, my official Product Hunt release: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/daily-deals-bfcm-flash-sales/
Please support with an upvote.
Thanks!
I'll be answering questions on the comments section on PH.
I am so glad to share that Shopify has selected Daily Deals for their staff pick!
I was shocked to find out that it was added. I had noticed my users spiked today, but I had thought it was due to another marketing promotion that I had engaged in.
Well, I went to https://apps.shopify.com and saw a familiar logo right on the homepage!
I am very glad to see that the app is being recognized as a great product. I have received a great deal of positive feedback from the early users of the app.
I was a bit underprepared for this selection, because I didn't receive any word from Shopify that they would be picking my app on this date.
So I scrambled to get the app in its best shape after I discovered my app on the homepage.
I will let everyone know how it goes after the week ends.

Hey Conner! Congrats, happy to see fellow Shopify app entrepreneur on IH. Would be lovely to connect with you on Telegram. I'm @preetam93 :)
We have started a marketing funnel.
Here is our landing page: https://go.galacticapps.com/
We are using social media channels to bring traffic to this landing page. We are looking to scale up when our new version is released.
I will definitely give an update once the version 2.0 is live. There are significant improvements based on feedback we received from our early users.
Exciting times!

First customer has gone through the 7 day free trial and paid! This is a huge milestone.
So far about 30 merchants have installed the app. Most have churned.
I'm going to be releasing a new version of the app shortly. If you'd be interested in learning the new features, I can make a follow up post going into depth about that.
The new features come from feedback I have received from my users. I think the app is going in a good direction, but we will need to see!

I'm happy to share that we have grown our first 10 users! This is incredible. Though there has been 10 users, I must say that there are things to be learned, and many many things to improve.
- Acquisition Channels
I have distributed my landing page to several Facebook groups and on Indie Hackers. To date, I have attracted 194 unique visitors to the landing page.
80% of this traffic came from FB/IH. Most of this traffic is not convertible, so I will be focusing on different channels next week.
15% of the traffic came from the Shopify app store search functionality. I'll have to make another post on the search terms that people are using to find my app.
- Churn Rate
Initially, I thought that the churn rate was really high. But after looking at the hard numbers, it's actually not so bad.
I'm looking at about a 80% churn rate. That means 20% of my users keep the app for longer than 3 days.
I definitely believe this can be significantly improved however. I can see the 3 day churn rate going as low as 20%.
- Product Development
There are a few bugs that need to be patched, but overall, the feedback I have received from users so far is that the product needs significant change in order to be truly valuable. What I have now is really an MVP. The problem that my app aims to solve is a real pain point that users are having, and actively seeking solutions for.
That said, I plan on moving the product in a new direction. More on this later.
Overall, the app has been received neutral by the market. There's definitely users willing to try it out, so as long as I drill down on the product, I believe I will see large growth.

Woohoo! I have officially released the Daily Deals app to the Shopify app store!
It took a lot of work, but I am so happy that I have finally got it released. Next step is to market the app!
The app took about 1.5 months of development time, and took 3 weeks for approval.

Congratz, man. I'm, too, looking to launch my Xero integration. It'll be my first app. Question, how long it took you to make your app public? Did you went through beta testing?
-

Thanks Dave! Is the Xero integration a Shopify app, or a standalone product?
It took about 1 month to do development, and 3 weeks from app submission to approval. I did have 1 beta tester! Lol.

Nice one Conner, looks good.
Do you have any industry stats about the success of daily deals that can be used to show potential customers the benefit? For example, "Sites that offer daily deals see a 80% increase in sales and 250% increase in returning customers." and then play off that, "Can you afford to not have Daily Deals on your store?" or something like that.

Thank you Sean!
I would love to be able to put statistics such as that out, however Shopify does not allow you to add any statistics on the product page. I guess since they can't confirm the validity of the claims, they don't allow you to put them there.

Interesting didn't know that, thanks for sharing! If you have your own marketing website I'd be happy to look at that. I lead marketing teams at GitLab & Rocket.Chat.

This is not related to Shopify.
Am also in the process of developing my IOS/Android apps and a website for my product. Should we start a company to do this or just release it once ready?
Yes, I have plans to monetize my product.
I'm still in early phases of development and expect to release in 4months.

It depends on legal requirements but my general advice is If you don't need the legal entity for a specific reason don't set it up eg:
- developing IP
- sales
- releasing on app store
- 1 year operation before applying to fund x
- etc
It introduces a lot of admin. What if you stop running this business, get a job, sell your time etc and if you thinking really lean, registering a company is not the most important thing to do. Focus on problem validation and then problem solution fit.

Congratulation on the launch!! Monetizing it? Just curious

Hey there, yep it's monetized: https://apps.shopify.com/daily-deals-6?source=indie-hackers
$6/month plan for now. I am going to be releasing updates to the app, and when the full-featured product is finished, I will have a $15/month plan as well.

I was able to get my first user to test out the app today! Here's the feedback that I received:
- App is really good
- Question regarding some functionality
- Small bug was pointed out
- Said would use when the full product is launched, and give a 5 star review
I'm so happy! This really motivates me to keep it up with Daily Deals.
Also, if you'd be interested in testing out the app, I'd be thrilled! I can get you free access before it goes live. You must have a Shopify store though!
Had issues with installation process on the initial build, so I had to rebuild the entire app with NextJS.
