Daily Fact or Fiction

I'm quite lucky that as a developer I have a constant friend requests from recruiters on LinkedIn. Even though it is the social network I use the least, it's the one where my following is the biggest. I used to run pretty successfully the LinkedIn bot for autonews.io and so I'm going to try to run one for dailyfof.com too. Let's see!

To support the app, we decided to build a corresponding Twitter account to post one poll with Fact or Fiction as options. The idea is to get the account automated eventually but right now it just it's just me sharing the current Fact or Fiction.

The engagement is quite low, but it's slowly gaining followers.

Once the baby was born it's not easy to build things. But as Ally started to add content to our database, I was slowly working on features. We nailed down and focus to just few essential ones to start with:

1. one Fact or Fiction a day with 2 animated buttons to build a little bit of expectation
2. store players statistics to local storage
3. add share buttons

That's it. I've built that using in ReactJS on NextJS.

Ally owns a cafe where every day she writes a Fact or Fiction (FoF) on the espresso machine and engages in heated discussion with customers over whether panthers are the fastest cat and whether Canada is the second largest country. Peter (me), a coffee drinker and occasional developer, tried his luck daily at the FoF until going on parental leave. During his time off he would text Ally daily begging for that day’s FoF, until he had the idea to build a place for the Daily FoF to live online.
