November 11, 2019 The library reached 18M monthly npm downloads

This week, npm reports that date-fns has 4 533 286 weekly downloads. It's 18M downloads per month!

Of course, the number doesn't represent the number of people that use it, but it shows the multitude, especially when you compare it with other packages.

For comparison, React has 26M and Vue.js 5M monthly downloads.

Well done! date-fns is my goto library for working with dates. How are you monetising it? I'm guessing donations.

Thank you! Yes, right now Open Collective is the only source of income: https://opencollective.com/date-fns.

I'm also started experimenting with a job board, but it's still early in development: https://jobs.date-fns.org/

October 6, 2014 I made the very first commit

Even though I disliked Moment.js API, there wasn't an alternative, so I stuck to it. At some point, it became a performance bottleneck in out code I decided that enough is enough and started replacing Moment.js with custom code.

I wrote and published the very first function startOfDay: https://github.com/date-fns/date-fns/commit/ad86a46a059d4baa178aa85d040aa4bd13430749

I was frustrated with Moment.js but couldn't find an alternative that would be fast, immutable, and employed functional approach, so I've built it myself.
