February 27, 2026 How we got 2M+ users on a free typing practice platform (and what we learned)

The problem we set out to solve

Typing is one of the most foundational computer skills — yet most people never

learn to do it properly. Schools in China started requiring typing proficiency,

but the tools available were either ancient software or boring drill apps that

kids abandoned after day one.

We thought: what if learning to type felt more like playing a game?

What we built

Daziya (daziya.com) is a free online typing practice platform. Key features:

- 3000+ structured lessons — from basic finger placement to advanced speed training

- Real content — Chinese poetry, classic novels, English vocabulary. You're not

just typing "asdf jkl;" over and over

- Games & competitions — typing games, real-time 1v1 battles, leaderboards

- Teacher dashboard — class management, student analytics, custom assignments

- WeChat Mini Program — mobile version for on-the-go practice

Traction

- 2M+ registered users

- 1,000+ teachers actively using the platform

- 270,000+ hours of cumulative practice logged

- Trusted by schools across China

How we grew

Honestly? Mostly organic. Teachers found us, liked it, recommended it to

colleagues. Word of mouth in the education space is powerful when the product

genuinely helps students.

SEO has been a slow but steady channel. We're still early on international growth —

which is partly why I'm posting here.

Business model

The core product is completely free. We have a paid tier for schools and

institutions that want advanced reporting, class management features, and

dedicated support. We're still figuring out the right pricing for international

markets.

What's next

- Better English content and UI for international users

- More game modes

- API for schools to integrate with existing LMS tools

Why I'm sharing this

We've been heads-down building for the Chinese market and just launched on

Product Hunt today. Would love feedback from the IH community — especially

from anyone who's grown an edtech or productivity tool internationally.
