Write letters your children will read when they're older.
I recently launched Dear Future You, a tool that lets parents write letters, stories, and advice to their kids and deliver them years in the future. It is simple by design: No AI, no apps, just words that matter.
Why I Chose Low Tech
Today most products start with the question “How can I add AI?” I went the other way. The point of Dear Future You is human connection. Automating or polishing a parent’s voice would miss the heart of the product. While I definitely used AI to write portions of the app, I decided against using it to help parents write to their kids.
Letters are sent by email so parents do not need another app to manage
The editor is plain text to keep the focus on writing
Prompts are written by hand to encourage memory and honesty
Time is the feature: delivery years later makes each letter meaningful
Messages are NOT stored in our database, they're sent and deleted from our records immediately
Final Thought
Generative AI is powerful, but not every product needs it. Sometimes the best way to stand out is to slow down, simplify, and focus on words that last. That being said, I have no idea if this is actually going to work :p. Here's to finding out!

Love this concept! In a world where every tool is trying to add AI, it’s refreshing to see something that’s intentionally simple and human-first. Writing letters to kids for the future feels timeless, and I can imagine how meaningful those messages will be when they’re finally delivered. Curious — did you find it hard to resist the urge to add more features (like AI, apps, notifications), or was it clear from the start that you wanted to keep it minimal?
Thanks! Yea it was hard because AI would certainly make it easier for the parents to write, but then what’s the point? I have a basic notification / reminder system since it’s easy to forget about these types of things and staying consistent is key. It’s still early stages so this is all unproven, but it’s definitely something I’m using and loving for my kids
Oh wow, love the low tech choice! You could add a delivery safety net (backup recipient, yearly address check), also what happens if an email bounces?
That's a good idea. By default it sends a copy to your email address as well, and there's an activation process to make sure you have the right email for your child. Thanks for the ideas!

Why not sending the email yourself? Why do we need this as a middle man?
Fair question! This is just a tool to help you keep up with it / gives you the following:
1) 200+ carefully written prompts / prompt series to help you out
2) The ability to easily share the prompts and tools with other family members so they can share their messages too
3) Email reminders to help you stay up with the messages so you don't fall off (like I have many times)
Definitely not required! That's why I emphasize that you're not locked in / can leave at any time and continue on your own. It has helped me with my kids, so maybe it can help others :)
I wonder whether my kid (2 year) will ever read. Teenagers these days are not fan of emails, imagine 10 years from now... have you ever wondered about that?
Sure, I like to think that they'll think it's cool to be able to scroll back and see all of the messages from me and my wife when we were in the thick of parenting. Who knows though! I've found it to also be a really good exercise just for me to reflect on things.
