But very few SaaS products are designed to answer this question:

Can you prove a critical decision wasn’t quietly edited after it was approved?

In most organizations, the honest answer is no.

The Moment That Changed My Thinking

I kept seeing the same pattern:

A decision is made.
Months pass.
An audit or dispute happens.
Everyone scrambles to reconstruct what happened.

Slack threads.
Email chains.
Version history guesses.
Human memory.

The decision may have been correct.

But the evidence isn’t defensible.

That’s when I realized something:

We have productivity infrastructure.
We don’t have accountability infrastructure.

So We Built One

Instead of building another workflow tool, we built Decidary — an immutable decision ledger.

The core rule:

Once finalized, a decision cannot be edited.

Not hidden.
Not overwritten.
Not “fixed quietly.”

If it changes, it’s an amendment — and that amendment is logged.

We also made some unpopular design choices:

• Audit logs are append-only.

• Reports are snapshot-based and cannot be regenerated.

• Separation-of-duties is enforced at the database layer.

• AI output is labeled as non-authoritative.

Developers don’t love rigidity.

Compliance teams do.

The Tradeoff Most Founders Avoid

Immutability makes everything harder.

You can’t:

• Patch data casually.

• “Fix” mistakes silently.

• Retroactively clean up records.

It forces discipline.

It forces better testing.
It forces better architecture.

And it forces you to admit:

If this goes to court, can we defend it?

That’s not a typical SaaS question.

Why This Matters More Now

AI is now assisting real operational decisions.

Hiring.
Risk assessments.
Compliance checks.
Approvals.

But here’s the uncomfortable reality:

Most companies cannot prove how those AI-assisted decisions were made.

We’ve optimized for speed.
We haven’t optimized for traceability.

That gap is going to matter.

The Hard Truth

The market rewards:

• Faster.

• Cheaper.

• Simpler.

But regulated industries reward:

• Defensible.

• Traceable.

• Immutable.

Those incentives don’t always align.

We chose the second path.

It’s slower.
It’s harder to explain.
It’s less “viral.”

But I believe accountability infrastructure will matter more over the next decade than another productivity dashboard.

A Question for Founders

If your product makes or influences important decisions:

• Can customers prove what happened?

• Can they prove what policy governed it?

• Can they prove it wasn’t altered later?

Or are we all just hoping no one asks?
