Deep Shop Translate

After six months of evenings and weekends, today my Shopify app got approved 🥲

I run a small online shop in Romania as a side business. Since we have an EU singe market and an abundance of pan-European shipping services, I decided to start selling to other EU countries as well. However, translating a small shop with little revenue to 24 EU languages proved to be harder than anticipated.

Existing translation/localisation apps have monthly fees that are more expensive than the actual Shopify fee. Paying $30 to $200 per month seemed a bit much for a small side business, but decided that I would: pay for 1 month -> translate everything -> uninstall -> update manually. You can probably already guess it didn't go as planned. With the $30 monthly subscription I didn't even get to translate 2 languages completely. This meant I had to either pay more (much more) or wait more than 1 year before I could have my shop completely translated.

I imagined the best solution for this type of problem would be a pay-per-use app. With a pay-per-use model, merchants could translate more when launching their store (without having to commit to heavy subscriptions), and then only pay small fees when updating products or policies.

This is how Deep Shop Translate was born.
