deepface.dev
Hosted facial recognition API
Yesterday we launched deepface.dev on Product Hunt and overall it went okay. Definitely have some learnings around promoting it before hand and 'warming up' social media. I think our biggest miss was not pushing Reddit harder.
One unexpected thing was the emails from security consultants asking for money to tell us about 'vulnerabilities'. We did a new security audit and found some issues but nothing major. Still not sure if the issues were real or if it was a shake down but a lesson to be learnt for sure
deepface.dev started out because in a different business that some of our team was involved in the amazing open source deepface repo from Sefik Serengil was really useful to us. Unfortunately open source means self hosted and most businesses would rather pay to use managed infrastructure (including that other business our team was involved in which has grown pretty big). This started as a side project to force myself to learn some technical skills (I am actually the Head of Ops at my company) and we have gotten to the point where we are ready for the world to use it.
If anyone wants to give it a try we have aimed to make time to first value as low as possible, to have great docs (thanks Mintlify), and to make our product easy for agents to use. We love feedback (there is a built in always present feedback button) and feedback comes straight to our slack. Hope this makes someones project easier and looking forward to seeing how this goes!
Thanks to Keat for supporting me in getting this over the line and thanks again to Sefik.

Loved the open source deepface repo from Sefik Serengil and understood that maintaining infrastructure is a pain that many developers would rather avoid - especially in the day and age of vibe coding and AI
