Got 258 karma points on Reddit from 3 easy posts!
by maxshashThis is a story how I managed to prepare my Reddit account to spread some word about our product there.
Yesterday I had a chat with one successful hacker and he advised me to take a look at Reddit. I've never used Reddit before and thought it's kind of "old-school".
However there are many subreddits with our target audience - developers.
To post there you need to have a karma and to have a karma you need someone to upvote your post or comment.
I used this simple trick to boost my karma on Reddit.
I took 3 recent pictures of street art that I really like and a picture of nice cat sitting in the bucket.
Then I posted these pictures to relevant subreddits.
One picture gave me 50 karma points and the other 218 karma points.
Now the road is open for more targeted posts. W
I will share the results tomorrow.
Anyone getting traffic from Reddit? What is your strategy?

That's a great idea! Another method that I used is to join a subreddit where I can contribute my knowledge and answer a few questions a week. It will get you karma and will also increase goodwill as you are not coming in just to pitch a product but are a part of the community

I did the same. I had 5 Karma or 10. And I posted a picture of a shark and now I have 35 Karma! I can post on the entrepreneur subreddit now.

Hi Mehdi,
As I see it now they have a separate karma points for many subreddits. Entrepreneur is one of those. I can't post there still.

Karma farming with content you didn't make yourself is generally considered to be a pretty shitty thing to do.

I really appreciate your comment, because you are honest and unafraid to say what you really think.
But I can't agree with your judgement for 2 reasons:
- Curating content is also a job. I have my personal collection on my hard drive. I do like street art and murals. There are a lot of good ones in the city where I live.
- I didn't pretend that was mine. I shared the ones I really liked. Same as other people do there.
If you can advice how to increase karma on Reddit in other ways, please share. I'll be happy to listen and learn.

As long as you make it abdundantly clear that you are not the creator, you should be fine I think. Many people neglect to do that.

The idea with dog sitting is nice. I will use it after the bootstrap )))
I just figured they have a separate karma points in different subreddits. So posting cats is not enough
