Jero and myself, lifelong friends, first began designing a platform to help users find, mix and match furniture pieces online in late 2020. After experiencing several relocations first-hand in Mexico City and Los Angeles, we both realized how time consuming and overwhelming finding the perfect furniture pieces to furnish a new place can become. A few months into my MBA at UCLA Anderson, a revolving community of new tenants hungry to furnish their places, I realized that these pain points applied to more than just our personal furniture shopping journey. On top of this, the large amount of offerings in the market (over 50k retailers) create discovery issues and 'analysis paralysis'.
With this in mind, we set out to build and launch an AI personal shopper (under the name Dequora) to test these hypotheses in the market, which targets to set the foundational stones of a team focused on the long term democratization of interior design.

So today we're really exited to share that we've finally reached our first 'real' milestone with the launch of our first complete MVP! We're planning on getting some feedback from close friends first, and we'll start to reach out to them directly or through social media / Linkedin, and this will be our first step towards planning a better plan to launch on the best possible channels like Product Hunt, Hacker news, Reddit, etc...

We're still working on some finishing touched on the overall product, design is ready but now struggling to get it correct on both mobile and web. We've also started showing the first mocks to some close friends, and doing minor changes to the experience based on those, the deployment of the first version can now be tested at: https://dequora.vercel.app/
As we want to move fast I decided to make the tech stack as easy to manage as possible, considering that I'm the only developer on the project I don't want to have complicated CI/CD process, or having to manage the integration between different services, I also thought about having the complete stack using Javascript so that it's easy to maintain.
I came up with this stack:
- Front-end: Next.js
- Back-end: AWS Amplify (Appsync, Cognito, S3, DynamoDB)
- Deployment: Vercel
