Desktop Model Gateway
Unified AI Gateway for Coding Agents at 80% Cost Reduction
Hey Indie Hackers!
As a heavy user of AI coding agents like Cursor, Claude Code, and Aider, I noticed my monthly API bills escalating into hundreds of dollars. Most of the cost came from repetitive token overhead and lack of unified routing.
To fix this, I created Desktop Model Gateway (DMG) – a unified, high-speed OpenAI-compatible gateway (/v1/chat/completions) designed specifically for developers and indie hackers.
Key capabilities:
- Unified Access: Aggregates top-tier models (Claude 3.5 Sonnet, GPT-4o, DeepSeek, Gemini Flash) under a single base URL.
- Huge Cost Savings: Reduces token costs by up to 80% with multi-source pooling.
- Built-in Quota & Budget Control: Track token usage, manage per-user limits, and view cost analytics in real-time.
- Failover & Low Latency: Automatic failover between backup channels with streaming support.

The 80% savings is compelling, but the harder signal seems to be whether developers actually move their regular agent traffic through the gateway. Have early users kept it in their workflow after testing, or is usage mostly experimental so far?
