Dark Next.js portfolio template — with built-in project idea

August 7, 2026 Shipped a dark developer portfolio template — also solves the "I have no projects" problem

When I was figuring out how to build my own portfolio, I noticed

the same wall a lot of beginner developers hit: the template is

easy, the projects section is the hard part. Most portfolio guides

skip straight to "add your projects" without addressing what happens

if you don't have any yet.

So I built this Next.js 15 + Tailwind template with that problem

in mind. It's got the usual stuff (dark theme, GitHub API auto-fetch

for your repos, working contact form, fully responsive), but the

part I'm actually proud of is a built-in "starter guide" section —

6 beginner-friendly project ideas (auth boilerplate, real-time chat

app, REST API + docs, etc.) that are impressive to recruiters and

easy to explain in interviews. Once you have real projects, you

just flip a flag in the config file and it disappears.

Everything customizes from one file (lib/config.js) — name, skills,

projects, links. Unzip, npm install, npm run dev, done.

It's live now if anyone wants to check it out: ko-fi.com/shoplara

Curious what other developers think is the hardest part of putting

a portfolio together — the projects, the writing, or something else?
