DevBox

Wow, long time since the last post 😅

Not much happened with the product since the last update, seems I got a little lazy 🙃 I was working on other things (a new product, open source things) and also my day job, but...

DevBox now has a newly designed website (https://www.dev-box.app) 🎉 I was unhappy with the old design, so I took 2 weeks to design and implement the new one. Hoping to get more conversions with it. It actually showcases some tools that DevBox has.

Business wise for the period of from September 2022 to February (20th) 2023:

• 56 sales in Gumroad (~$1,280 - 😮 haven't realized that it was this many)
• 17 new subscriptions in AppSumo (~$270)
• 16 sales in the Mac App Store (~$260)

All in all, ~$1,800 in revenue in ~5 months without spending much time on the product 🤑

Other notable things that happened in this period:

• Registered an Estonian (1 person) company through e-residency which will be the owner of the product from now own.
• I got my D-U-N-S Number for Apple to change to a company account, change still in progress, the number took a long time to get 🤷‍♂️ (but at least free).
• Speaking about Apple, they stopped paying me out because of a refund situation (not sure if it resumed since then, need to contact them 🤔)
• Gumroad changed it's pricing to be a flat 10%, so I'm switching to Lemon Squeezy (https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/) for 5%, waiting for the first sale form there 🤞

One of the milestones I set for DevBox has been reached! Sales of the desktop application surpassed 100, and the overall revenue is surpassed $3000 💵

Since the last update, DevBox was published in the Mac App Store and where 3 new releases (the last one is 2.4.0).

Sales wise, the last two months looks like this:

• 33 sales of the Desktop Application
• 30 new subscriptions for the AppSumo Deal
• 7 sales on the Mac App Store

These all add up to ~$1000 (after payment fees).

I kind of slacked off the showcase blog posts but I will pick it up again soon. I added a blog post about the last release here https://www.dev-box.app/blog/2.4.0 which I will do for all other release going forward.

So the end of June is near and it's time for a status post!

Sales wise, the month was nice (~$300):

• 9 sales of the Desktop Application
• 13 new subscriptions for the AppSumo Deal

Currently, I'm working on the next version, which will be release in the next couple of days. Also working on some content marketing posts with videos like these:

I'm planning on release 1 or 2 each month and hoping it will generate views in the long term. Also thinking of searching for a marketing co-founder, but will see.

I released a new version of DevBox with 5 new tools and 5 new cheat-sheets 🎉

This month (since the last update) was the best month so far:

• 13 sales netting ~$300 of the desktop application
• 4 sales netting ~$40 of the AppSumo deal
• 1 new subscriber with monthly subscription for the web application

The traffic from the deal is winding down, so I'm looking for new channels while adding more features.

The AppSumo deal went live two days ago. It generated a lot of views (doubled the unique users on the site) and some sales:

• 4 sales of the desktop application
• 8 deals (for 1 year of subscription) of the web application

This increased the total sales to 50 and subscriber count to 12. I earned around $170 in the last two days :)

There are some issues on using their site, mostly about comment moderation side (can't reply to some comments, can only approve comments) I wrote them about these waiting for the reply, otherwise it was a smooth integration.

I just released DevBox 2.0 which adds a new category besides tools: cheat-sheets! The update adds 10 cheat-sheets and 2 new tools, which are higher quality than the previous ones (code snippet to image, and color information).

Finance wise, since the last update there was one sale and another subscription, which brings the total sales up to 43 and current subscriptions to 3.

I finished the AppSumo integration, which should go live in a couple of days. It's basically offering a year of the subscription at a lower price ($15 instead of $20), which still needs credit card information, so I'm not expecting many subscriptions from this, but It might bring more visitors to the site.

There are still many visitors from ProductHunt, and the organic traffic from Google is slowly increasing as well.

I just found out that DevBox has two subscribers (using the monthly plan) 😮 apparently Stripe didn't send me emails about them 😅 also, there were 5 sales since the last update, which brings overall sales count to 42 😆

I think that the sales came from the ProductHunt launch because since then the traffic has picked up considerably. It didn't do very well in case of upvotes on the launch day, but getting some since then.

Funny story, I've accidentally launched a week ago and managed to re-schedule but it generated a lot of traffic which lead to 6 sales 😮 so I'm hoping it will result in more.

Since the last update there were three releases.

It's been three months since the last post here, so here is a short review of them. I took a step back in November and December (holidays and such).

There were two releases this year: 3 new tools, syntax highlighting for the textareas, new dashboard and website design.

I've made $475 (pre fees) in the last year, which is nice, this year it's $125 already :) with these sales count almost 30. In Gumroad DevBox gotten two 5-star reviews.

I'm about to release another 7 tools and a new logo (which you can already see here).

Currently, we are spending two Months in Gran Canaria, after getting back In March, I'll do another ProductHunt lunch with all these new features added called "DevBox 2.0", I hope sales will pick up there :)

I've released DevBox 1.3.0 and wrote a blog post about it: https://dev.to/gdotdesign/devbox-130-3n35

With this I've implemented a web application version with subscriptions so DevBox from now on is also a SaaS (2.5$/month or 20$/year).

Also, I've released 10 tools to use for free. I hope this will drive up conversions.

I'll be running some ads now on Facebook and on Codrops and possibly Smashing Magazine (the last two are closer to my target audience).

Since the last update I've made 7 sales (about $175) which I'll use for advertisements.
