AI copilot for calls

August 8, 2026 Show IH: I built an AI call co-pilot

Hey Indie Hackers πŸ‘‹

Living in Japan, I constantly see expats, non-native speakers, and sales reps face severe anxiety when handling live phone calls. Text translation works fine async, but live cellular calls happen too fast.

When I tried building a real-time solution, I ran into a major technical barrier: iOS and Android sandbox cellular calls, preventing web apps from capturing in-call audio on the same device.

Most tools get around this by forcing users onto expensive VoIP dialers or using autonomous AI bots that talk over people and cause callers to hang up.

Instead, I built DialAssist AI to run on a secondary device (laptop/tablet/second phone) next to your main phone on speakerphone:

  • Live Translation Gloss: Displays real-time translated transcripts (EN, JA, ES, PT, ZH, KO, HI).

  • 1 tap AI suggestions: Displays real-time AI suggestions translated and ready to play voice.

  • Goal-Driven Steering: Generates live tap-to-speak responses tailored to your goal (handling objections, booking appointments, qualifying leads).

  • Human-in-the-Loop: You stay in control and tap to speak in the caller's language.

It’s built with Next.js, WebSockets, and low-latency STT/TTS, and runs entirely in the browser with no installation.

It's free to try right now at dialassist.app. I’d love your feedback.

About

Living in Japan, I repeatedly saw expats, foreign workers, and business professionals hit a wall when making phone calls. Whether calling city hall, booking appointments, or handling sales negotiations, phone calls.
