Get an email when your favorite director releases a movie
I expected more from a Product Hunt launch, so I'm a little disappointed that I got no traffic or users from it. The experience did give me an idea though, which is to have a community that you can tap into for upvotes - be it on PH or anywhere else. You upvote me, and I'll upvote you - an upvote exchange. It is a great feeling! I was mentioned in a YouTube video, like a quick 15 sec bit about my Product embedded in a video about what they find on Product hunt. I wasn't the focus like your product, but it still made me smile ear to ear.

24 hours ago I setup a basic Reddit ad, targeting only the /r/movies sub (which has 23 million members!) with a $5 max daily spend. 24 hours later and my ad is approved, let's see how many sign-ups I can get. I'm also going to tweak the copy and see what difference it makes.
Shared the project as a "Show HN:" link on hackernews, got positive comments, everyone thinks its a "fun" and "great" idea! Received ~40 email sign-ups and a couple of feature suggestions. Next week I'll post on PH and see how that goes. Tried sharing the link on /r/movies and /r/horror but my post got immediately removed, which is a shame - I'm just trying to make something useful for movie lovers! Oh well, I'll look for some smaller sub-reddits this week.
My other side-project MVP has taken over a year and is still in progress, so I needed to build something quick to boost my motivation, plus I wanted to keep it simple and follow one of the basic rules of creating an MVP: Solve your own problem. So without having to keep up with movie news, now we can all know when the next movie from our favorite director is released in theaters :)
