Directory Bear
The World's Largest AI-Curated Web Directory.
I just launched Directory Bear, the world's largest AI-curated web directory.
The problem is simple: search engines have become ad-driven and SEO-gamed. It's harder than ever to discover quality websites organically. The old web directories (like DMOZ) are dead or stale, and nothing has replaced them with a modern approach.
So I built an AI pipeline that crawls the web, analyzes every site, and generates a transparent Bear Rank (BR) score from 0 to 100. The score is based on four signals: popularity, authority, longevity, and safety. No pay-to-play, no hidden criteria — you can see exactly why a site scored the way it did.
Every site gets an AI-generated description, FAQ, and category placement. Right now we have 946K+ sites across 35 categories, and anyone can submit their site for free to get ranked.
The tech stack is Hugo generating a fully static site with nearly a million pages, served on Bunny CDN. The entire build pipeline — crawling, scoring, categorizing, page generation — is automated.
I'm curious to hear from the IH community: would you submit your project to a directory like this? What would make it more useful for indie makers specifically? Always looking for feedback.
