Disability News Wire
connecting the greater disability community and their allies
Experimenting with branded "telegrams" on Twitter. No links (except in the image)... mostly. Idea is to feed twitter and grow my twitter community while driving traffic and awareness of our site.
For an example... feedback welcome!
I've been working Twitter since November 2020 figuring out how to make it work.
I use it in two ways:
- Intentional networking with political leaders, activists, and the disability community.
This works quite well for the adult disability community (the parents of disabled kids seem to be on Facebook) and for reaching out to political leaders.
Being super nice and supportive on the Internet is an amazingly effective strategy... RAINBOW MAYBERRY.
- I'm working on using this for lead generation over to Disability News Wire.... but this is still early days.
The key to successful use of social networking platforms is a dance between keeping them happy and keeping your business successful.
So far, I'm working more on keeping them happy, I've been avoiding adding links or driving traffic off their site.
I'm looking at adding more images...
... we'll see how it goes.
Also, get my newsletter started. - WireDisability?

Met with a fellow parent of a child with disabilities. He's excited, which is good. Helping me focus.
GOAL 1 - 1000 people/organizations/businesses to pledge to join Disabilities United Association
... also a simple "follow along" option without the pledge.
No entity, or serious asking for money until I get some traction.... not even a bank account.

OK, I think I've got this as simple as possible, but I may be wrong.
-
I need an "attraction engine" that may also make money itself. "Disability News Wire"... will likely be structured as a standard business, may be a hub for multiple busineses.
-
My "big goal" is to build the "Disabilities United Association" - like AARP for the disability community... a 501c4 or 501c6.
-
This can all be super-lean... I just need to keep the lights on and the engine running until we get market-product fit... (I've picked my big market - the disability community, my starter market and product/service is flexible).
So, other end of rainbow is fixed, getting there is highly flexible, just have to stay in the game to figure it out.

Moving is a PITA.
Mom is still in hospice, but things have settled down.
Lots of time to reflect, not time to "do" during the whole moving process.
Time to get started again (I was definitely adrift in July - but... unpacking, so not a lot of impact).
Here's where I am at:
- No incorporating or anything until "viable".
- This is an infinite project... I may not have the right strategy yet, but my goal is to "get there" (I also win if someone else solves this problem).
- This project will long outlast me if I do it right.

We've been working together for a couple of years - trying to figure out how to change the dynamic in the disability community. We set up a 501c4 which she is taking / I gave her.
Ouch.
No hard feelings and it will allow me to focus on the raw building out of "disability hub" or hubs.
This spring is rough.
Red flag 2 - my mom just went into hospice.
Challenge 3 - we are moving on 1 July. Time to start packing.
Red flag 4 - no one to get energized by or bounce ideas off of.

It is set up as a basic news aggregator. I had initially focused on podcasts as it is very hard to find disability podcasts (disability is not a keyword in the standard podcast directories).
This is designed for the super-long-haul, so I need to be able to keep the system running through thick and thin.
Raw aggregation of content that is highly fragmented across the Internet seems to be a good "content engine" to build on.

There are 60 million disabled Americans including my son who are being left behind. I'm trying to bring them together.
