Dompedia
live WHOIS + 580k domain drop catalogs
Three months ago I started building a project I actually wanted to use: a domain research tool that hits the real registry, not a stale API, and shows me curated lists of short names that are dropping.
The product: dompedia.com
Real-time WHOIS
Structured data output (not raw text)
Curated catalogs: 4L, 3C, 2C .com + cross-TLD lists for .ai .io .co .net .org
Pattern filters (CVCV, VCVC, numeric, etc.)
Free unlimited lookups · Signal $29/mo · Orbit $149/mo (3-day trial)
Lessons so far:
WHOIS is messy — every TLD has its own format, rate limits, and connection behaviour.
Domain investors care deeply about freshness. "Updated daily" isn't enough — they want to see the record the moment it changes.
Pricing around "catalog access" rather than "per lookup" feels honest and gets less pushback.
Happy to share more about the tech stack or growth experiments if anyone's interested!
