Drammer whisky app
The only whisky app you'll ever need
In 2016 together with Marthijn we started developing the Drammer whisky app. On April 21, 2017 we made Drammer available in the app stores with just 297 signed up users. At that time we couldn’t even dream that today, on May 30, 2021 our 25.000th user signed up for a Drammer account! 🎉 Many thanks to all Drammer users for trusting us to provide the best whisky app experience! 😃 Curious about our whisky app? Download Drammer for free at https://get.drammer.com
After months of work, we've released Drammer whisky app 2.0. This upgrade includes a new look & feel, speed improvements and lots of bug fixes. Curious? You can download Drammer for free at https://get.drammer.com
We've made a short video to show the app features:

After a long time testing with a small selected group of Drammer users, we finally made the beta public. Within 24h we've had over 200 users subscribed as beta tester. So far there aren't reports of huge bugs (yay!). We had some UI glitches reported here and there, but overall it goes very well.

A year ago, the 10.000th signed up for our whisky app. This milestone took us quite some time. Today we've grown another 5.000 users in just one year.
Now that the road is clear for the next milestone, I am quite curious when we'll reach the 20.000 user goal.

Today we were notified by a friend that we are #47 in the Dutch iOS top 50 for the "Food and Drinks" category.
Great to see that all the hard work is paying off. It would be great if we can improve this position next for year. With so much apps out there this is already nice 😁

Our users put in a lot of effort to add their collection, wish list and reviews to Drammer. A wish from our users was to export their data to a CSV/Excel document. We've implemented this feature and on the first day it was used a lot.
Now our users own their own data and can export it any time they want. Another benefit is that Drammer users can sort, filter and do whatever they want in Excel.

This is a huge step forward. We made our goal for doubling our signup users in one year. We are gaining more traction than the year before. We also see that we need to spend more on payed advertisement.
For November and December we are planning to run ads on the Google play store, Facebook and Instagram.

One year after the public release we've had our 5.000th user signed up. Time for celebration since this was really an achievement for us. We also noticed that we've got more users signing up from countries other than The Netherlands.
Our goal was to double the number of signups for the next year.

So our users are able to upload a picture of their whisky, which is great. However it turned out that some smartphones (e.g. Samsung) add the wrong orientation in the meta (EXIF) information of the picture. As a result some of the pictures are uploaded in portrait, but turned out to be landscape after uploading. The solution was simple: We've added a rotation button so the user can rotate the picture after uploading 🤓

We contacted one of the biggest online liquor stores in The Netherlands. They offered us a price feed which we could import in the Drammer whisky app.
As a result we earned our very first revenue for users who made a purchase after being redirected from a whisky page.

About
Back in the days there wasn't a whisky app which covered the needs of our group of whisky friends. Usability was often an issue. Therefore we decided to make our own with the features and experience we love.

Hey, congratulations on this milestone!
Do you still feel it was worth it? And does it pay off? I mean, it's a free app, right?
Thanks! Yeah it was definitely worth it. Indeed the app is free, but as a freelance software engineer it helped me to convince clients of my capabilities. Most of the time when you tell them you have a 20K+ userbase they understand on what level you operate :)
