May 26, 2020 📻Mentioned in The Bootstrapped Founder podcast

First appearance on a podcast!

Arvid Kahl talked about DrawSQL in his podcast 'The Bootstrapped Founder' - one of my favourite podcasts.

The Balsamiq team has been amazing to offer up their paid ad slots to make this possible.

Means a lot that they're helping other bootstrappers in the community like myself that are still in the early days; hope to be able to do the same someday🙂

Also, already seeing some new users coming from that podcast ad.👋

April 29, 2020 🤯#3 on Hacker News

I've never really used HackerNews so still figuring out the style of the community. Posted DrawSQL there with an intro comment to supplement the ongoing ProductHunt launch.

Very surprised to see DrawSQL staying at the top of the frontpage for a while until now.

Still-cannot-believe-it!

It's past 2am here, can't decide if I should head off to bed, or just continue replying. There's so much valuable feedback there!

Good for you!! And cool product.

Out of curiosity, how much traffic are you getting?

      Haha thanks @READMEmoney!

The real-time stats was showing around 50 active on the site at any time, haven't actually dug into the aggregate traffic. Still working through support & chats with new users from yesterday, but will surely report back once I have some time to check the stats :)

April 28, 2020 A different ProductHunt launch 🤷

2nd PH launch, with a completely different goal this time. With the previous launch the goal was purely to get more early users into the app.

This time around, the focus is instead to kickstart the SEO 'engine' by (hopefully) ranking high in ProductHunt. This template gallery is my first experiment in 'Engineering as Marketing', with the goal being to capture traffic from long-tail keywords over the long-term.

Will see how this pans out! Currently 5th on the page. 🙏🤩

March 13, 2020 Launched PH upcoming page for DB Schema Gallery

This is step 1 of my next growth experiment - I'm building a 'side-project' for DrawSQL. This will be a collection of database schema templates and examples.

The goal is to introduce DrawSQL to the new set of new users, as well as to serve as a reference point when users are architecting their database. Also using this learn more about SEO strategies myself.

March 7, 2020 Start logging Milestones here

Did a bit of reflection today, and realized its already been 1.5 years since launch (and my last milestone) now! Really surprised by how quickly things went by.

Was fulfilling to review the changelog to see what's changed over this 1.5 years - glad that I'd started recording these early. However, the changelog only contains product/technical changes but had nothing on business milestones, I kinda regret not keeping this page up to date.

Decided to start being more intentional about logging milestones here, even just for my future self. Will backfill more milestones here over the coming days.

February 26, 2020 Showcased briefly in Laracon Online 2020

Made an appearance in Laracon Online 2020 in front of 5000+ developers - Christoph showed DrawSQL for the demo of his awesome talk on Laravel factories.

Couldn't figure out the surge in sign-ups at first until seeing the talk a week later 🤦‍♂️

January 8, 2020 Sent first monthly update email

Sent out the first-ever update email with a summary of things and what's new in the product. As the userbase grows, wanted this to be a quick way to keep users updated not just on new product features, but also to offer a more transparent view on the journey overall.

Turns out it's also a good way to get myself to reflect on what was achieved every month in a more structured way.

Took a while for this to sink in; A favourite customer had just upgraded from our Growth to the Large plan. Almost one full year after launch, DrawSQL have got its first $99/month customer now!
