July 19, 2026 Apple rejected my Mac app three times. Here's what for.

I shipped Duply, a Mac disk cleaner, last month. Apple rejected it three times before it went live — and none of the reasons were about what the app actually does. Posting them in case they save someone a week.

1. The word "Mac" in my subtitle (5.2.5)

My subtitle was "Clean junk, optimize your mac". Rejected for using an Apple trademark in a way that could confuse users. You can still use "mac" in the keyword field — just not the subtitle.

2. An entitlement I wasn't using (2.4.5)

I had com.apple.security.files.downloads.read-write left over from an early version that scanned Downloads. By launch the app didn't need it. Apple checks that every entitlement maps to real functionality.

3. No way to reopen the window (4.0.0)

Close the main window with the red button and the app kept running with no way to get it back. SwiftUI's WindowGroup doesn't give you a Window menu entry for free. Fixed with CommandGroup(replacing: .windowList) plus openWindow(id:).

The third one I'd never have caught myself — I never close the window while developing.

Separately, a pre-submission scan showed I was missing PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy entirely. Apple hadn't flagged it yet, but it would have been ITMS-91061 on a later upload. If your app touches file timestamps, disk space, UserDefaults or boot time — most utilities do — you need one.

Duply's live now, $4.99 one-time. Happy to answer anything about the review process.

About

I kept running out of space on a 256GB MacBook, and every cleaner I looked at wanted $40 a year for something I'd use maybe once a month. The ones that were cheap felt sketchy — a progress bar, a big number, and no idea
