Building a leave-by time calculator for flights

July 20, 2026 Building a leave-by time calculator for flights — got a great piece of feedback I didn't expect

I kept noticing people either miss flights or wildly over-pad their travel time, because there's no clear answer to "when do I actually need to leave." Maps apps give you drive time, but nothing accounts for security lines, check-in cutoffs, immigration, or traveling with kids.

Built a small MVP solo (using an AI coding agent for the build) that breaks the leave-by time into named parts instead of one guessed number — like a receipt: security, check-in, immigration if international, family adjustment, drive time.

Posted it for feedback in a couple of places, and got one comment that reframed the whole problem better than I had it: someone pointed out their real pain point wasn't traffic or a flat time rule — it was landing at an unfamiliar airport for the first time (their example: a huge line just to enter the building in Mumbai) and having zero idea what to expect. That's pushing me to think about airport-specific/first-timer data as the real differentiator, not just live traffic.

Live and free to try (flights only for now): earlyish.app

Would love brutally honest reactions — does breaking it down like this feel more trustworthy than one number, or is it just more to read?

I like that the most valuable outcome wasn't validating the existing solution—it was discovering that first-time uncertainty at a specific airport might be the real problem.

I'll be interested to see which moments users consistently describe as reducing their stress. Those patterns often reveal what the product is actually helping people buy.
