Easy Check Splitter
A free tab splitting calculator to split the check fairly.
Added a new feature to allow the sharing of your meal split calculations! This site is currently fully client-side with just static files and I want to keep it that way. That meant I didn't want to set up a database to store the calculations or work with any serverless functions even. So I found library that compresses JSON into a format that can be used in URLs and it worked perfectly! Now you can grab a snapshot of your calculations and share it with a friend so they can see the breakdown. (Maybe if they want to see the math). The JSON data gets compressed and encoded and attached to the URL with a hash and then I check to see if that hash exists, and if so I decode, uncompress and populate the data into the calculator!
I've just created the first of hopefully many free tools I expect to make with the intention of one day monetizing them with ads. This was one of the easiest ideas on my growing list of free tool ideas, especially because I already had a tool I was using for myself. The tool helps you split the check fairly with friends when you're out eating at a restaurant. So many times I've used a spreadsheet I have that fairly assigns each item to a person and then calculates what they owe including a relative portion of tax and tip. There are a couple of bill splitting tools out there but I haven't seen one that does quite what I wanted. Specifically none of them had all of the following features:
- Meant for splitting a single receipt paid for by one person amongst friends
- Allocation of food items to friends and accounting for this share in the tax and tip
- A simple and clean web interface that I could use on my computer (and not a mobile app)
With those things in mind, I've created Easy Check Splitter - a quick and easy way to split the check with friends fairly. Now I need to work on sharing it around and starting to gain traffic. 🤞🏾

Many times after going out with friends, one person will grab the check and then it's always a process to figure out how much each person owes. I made this to help myself, my friends, and anyone else who shares meals!
