Easy Outlines
Essay Thesis and Outline Generator
I had been trying to scratch the itch of not just building something, but building something useful and of actual value. I had toyed with chatGPT for minor things around this time and much like everyone else, I saw the potential in getting it to write long form content of all kinds for users.
When I sat down with it for some thorough due diligence, I saw that it was quite limited in its ability to generate a wide variety of essays on the same topic. Over 10 attempts of asking it the same question in different forms (mimicking school students trying to get it to write an essay), I found that most of the content was the same. This would be a minefield of plagiarism if used as such. It was a small dead end.
I then realized another way to go about it to ensure minimal plagiarism while providing something of value at a fast pace to users would be to do the harder parts of writing essays for them, while letting them do the actual writing.
The hardest parts of writing essays are:
- Coming up with a thesis.
- Figuring out what to write for a specific thesis (aka the outline of the essay including examples from sources)
Luckily chatGPT is surprisingly good at both these things. Thus, EasyOutlines took shape in my mind. An essay thesis and outline generator that does the research for you and provides you with more than enough content to get a great head start on your writing assignments (since editing existing text is much easier than typing from scratch on a blank screen). Since the user ends up having to write the essay themselves, they inevitable end up lending their own style of writing to it which helps ensure nothing is overtly plagiarized.
I'd love to have anyone reading this give it a shot and let me know what they think!
PS, the web app has no user signups, no email capturing and no personal data collection since that was always a design pattern I disliked using other one-off tools.
About
Helping students write essays by doing a bunch of the heavy lifting while trying to ensure no major ethical boundaries are crossed since the content generated cannot be blindly copy-pasted but still has a lot of value.

Good idea! I usually found those parts to be among the hardest when writing my thesis
Thank you so much! Glad you found it of use and hope you come back if you need it in the future! I've also built a discord bot that generates thesis ideas and helps you directly access the outlines from inside the chat itself, currently trying to figure out how to deploy it, which has me a little lost haha.
