Most online converters upload your file to a server first. EasyConvert doesn't — it runs ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly directly in your browser, so your videos, audio, and images are converted on your own device and never leave it. No upload wait, works offline once loaded, batch convert, trim and compress. Free, no account.

This is a strong example of shifting compute from server-side to client-side using WASM, which meaningfully changes the trust and latency model of file conversion tools. The interesting part isn’t just privacy—it’s the removal of upload as a system dependency, which fundamentally changes the bottleneck from network-bound to device-bound execution. That tradeoff usually works best when you can guarantee consistent performance across mid-range browsers, which is where most similar tools tend to break down.

Every "free online converter" makes you upload your video to a server, wait, and trust a stranger with the file. I wanted one that didn't. EasyConvert runs the whole conversion in the browser .
