The curated recycling map

April 25, 2023 10% of all contributions go toward carbon removal initiatives.

I've made it easier for people to support my initiative so I can continue to improve the map and add more locations. Anyone can now support the project through a one-time donation or a monthly subscription as a "buy me a coffee". It's not much, but hopefully, in the next few months, I'll be able to cover at least our infra + integration expenses ($50/mo). Just a dozen more customers to go.

Happy recycling! ♻️

Interesting concept. Do you have an EN version website? (I didn't look too hard before popping back in here to ask.)

    1. 2

Yep. There's a language selector at the bottom of the main page. I did not make that too visible since waste collection and recycling points are mainly from around my hometown for now, but you can access the EN version also via https://econub.com/?locale=en

March 20, 2023 Over 1,500 recycling points and open to public contributions!

We now reached 1,519 recycling and collection points on our ecomap.

We're ready to receive contributions from the community. Anybody can submit a new recycling location by hitting the "New location" button in the top right corner. We tried to make it as simple as possible to add these from mobile. The button opens your phone camera, you snap a picture of the new recycling point, select the materials, and submit the location. That's it!

The best part is you can make submissions for new locations anywhere in the world, and they will automatically appear on the map upon approval.

All new location submissions will automatically be anonymized in the back, meaning all faces and license plate numbers will be blurred once our team approves the point submission. We do this in order to be compliant with all EU privacy laws since we're an EU-based company.

We've also improved the UX, so now you should be able to see what materials you can recycle on each map point on hover.

Search is better, meaning, it will only return results within the area where recycling points exist.

One last thing, if you have a friend wandering where to recycle something and know the place on our map, you can share that point with them.

Hope this update makes a breeze navigating our map.

Happy recycling! ♻️

Super! Is this app available for other regions to use? Im spearheading the small to medium business transformation in my region to a waste-free world (reuse, refill, naked packaging) etc... aka circular economy shift.

    1. 1

Yes. For every new location added, the map automatically expands to that area.

September 16, 2022 Small map improvements

Long time no update! We know. We're slowly restarting to pick up the pace.

We've just made a few UX improvements to the web app to avoid content reflow when loading the map or location images.

It should be overall a more pleasant browsing experience, especially on mobile devices 😊

October 5, 2021 New map

We got rid of the Google Map and replaced it with Mapbox (https://www.mapbox.com/). It runs much faster and allows so much more customization in order to provide a better and smoother experience.

The new map has:

  • A filter based on our current material types.
  • Better map controls.
  • Geocoding search by address.
  • Recycling points show a popover on click with a "Directions" CTA that opens your preferred navigation app to find the location faster.

Check it out: https://econub.com/en

P.S.: We'll soon launch our public API. Stay tuned!

About

There's not one comprehensive map of local recycling and waste collection points in my town. So I started to build one.
