Emblemicons
An open-source free to use library of 1000+ beautiful icons
I wrote about my entire experience of building and launching my first product Emblemicons. Here are my key learnings from the experience -
-
We can develop any new skill very quickly by doing and performing the tasks. I built Emblemicons by shipping something and getting my hands dirty every day. That's the way.
-
The paths are not going to be smooth for us. We need to figure out things as we make progress. I got stuck at many points while building Emblemicons. But, all I would do, whenever I got stuck, was to look out for information on the internet and figure out a way to learn and fix the issues.
-
Learn new things and build new things.
-
Do more, talk less.
-
Ship, Ship, and Ship. Because that is only what matters in building products.

In the second week of August 2020, I started my journey to build my first product. I started working on a very simple idea to build an open-source icon library of the most commonly and frequently used icons in digital products and share it with the world. On September 13, 2020, I launched my first product, Emblemicons, an open-source free-to-use library of 1000+ beautiful icons, on Product Hunt. To my surprise, Emblemicons got the "#4 Product of the Day" badge from Product Hunt on the launch day.
It was a great moment to cherish.

We launched Emblemicons on Product Hunt and got to the front page/featured products page!
I don't know how many page views I got because I forgot to integrate Google Analytics to track traffic. All I know is that we got around 100+ upvotes on launch day and we got many more upvotes the next day.
The best learning I had was that don't forget to integrate Google Analytics or any other analytics software to measure and keep track of your traffic. It just takes 15-30 mins of your time, even if you are a novice. It gives you insights to improve your product. I integrated Google Analytics in Emblemicons after a few days of the launch day.
I wrote about the launch of Emblemicons in our blog at -

I'm excited about what comes next!

It took 3 weeks, but I'm finally done building the minimum viable product for Emblemicons. I worked mostly nights and weekends, and I coded the whole thing in Jekyll, HTML, CSS, JavaScript. I wrote about the experience of completing MVP in the blog at - https://emblemicons.in/blog/2020/08/30/a-warm-welcome-to-emblemicons-1.0.0/
The next goal for me was to scale it from the current base of 100+ icons to 1000+ icons in the next 2 weeks.

I wanted to build and launch my first product.
I've read so many times that you should solve your own problem, and so I was thinking about all the problems in my life.
With our analysis, we were surprised to find that the process to find and download a basic commonly used icon from the web involves too many steps and it was time-consuming.
Emblemicons was born with a simple idea to build an open-source library of most commonly and frequently used icons in digital products and share it with the world.
Emblemicons was born as a weekend project to make the most commonly and frequently used icons available for free. The idea was to make a library of icons that can be used in product development, product design, software development, business presentations, academic projects, to name a few. The idea was to make it completely free for personal and commercial use.
