Emoji Maker
Create customized emojis
I'm really happy for selling this little project of mine. At first, I didn't think that anyone would be interested in such a tool, but it seems that I was wrong ๐
Sure, it wasn't sold for much, but I think it's enough for me to focus on other bigger projects, starting with SpacedLeet ๐ง , which I just launched on the Chrome Web Store (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/spacedleet/dfhagjnahejiapmfkmmbkheikldoahch)
After the huge number of visitors and feedback for Emoji Maker, I decided to list it for sale in order to fund my other projects ๐
It can become profitable, especially if it's integrated with a mobile keyword, but I don't have the time to do it.
I did list it on 1KProjects (https://1kprojects.com/project/emoji-maker), however, the $19 fee paid through Paypal makes it impossible to sell it there since Paypal doesn't support my country.
So far, I got a $250 offer on 1KProjects. I'm not sure where am I going to list it next, but if you'd like to buy it, you can contact me at hello@jamstack.studio ๐
I noticed some weird spike in traffic to my website today, but I couldn't understand where was it coming from (Google Analytics is kinda complicated to understand).
Once I figured it out though, I was shocked to find out that Emoji Maker is featured on LifeHacker ๐ฎ.
BTW, the LifeHacker login system seems broken and I couldn't reply to users' feedback there ๐ฅ

The last design of Emoji Maker was not that good. Even if I tried to make it more mobile-friendly, it didn't look good at all for me. The icons where all over the place, the page was too long and many features were missing.
Furthermore, 70% of visitors used their mobile devices and they clearly didn't like the experience (most people spent around 20s on the website).
The new design looks like a mobile app ๐งฏ. Please try it and give me your honest feedback! ๐

I noticed that 70% of visitors actually visited the site from their mobiles, so I thought that making it a little bit more usable for mobile users would make them a little bit happier.
What I've done is reducing the size of emojis templates, reducing the white space, and using CSS Flex for better alignments.

Damn this is a really original idea. Very cool.
Some question on tech, did you use any backend for downloads (svg, png) or all frontend? What did you use?
file-savernpm package? Also your projects listing on your website looks full of cool projects, also big fan of jamstack!

Thank you ๐
There is no backend at all. It's all done on the frontend :) Yup, I'm usingfile-saverto trigger downloads once an image is generated. Many projects, no revenue ๐

Just maybe if I can give my opinion, for revenue I would keep working on jamstack.studio
Jamstack is going to blow up very soon, especially Gatsby. I'm also thinkering about creating a service for premium gatsby templates/starters. Even now, you can see people selling templates on envato market.
Also (i saw your twitter desc) you are too talented to be working for another company.

I do see the potential for Jamstack too, but I don't really like making templates ๐ฅฑ. I will be working on a product related to Jamstack though.
By the way, I update https://jamstack.studio/emoji, what do you think ๐
As for working for other people, I tried it, and yup, I didn't like it ._.

Thank you ๐
The emoji is the title is not made by me though. It's an actual emoji. I suppose macOS didn't add support for it yet?

During this weekend, I decided to make an emoji generator using only React and SVG.
I wanted to make this project in order to test out how far can I depend on React, React DOM, and SVG for building and generating things while preparing for my upcoming projects.

Kudos! Would be interested in how you sold it and how you found your buyer.
Thanks Carl :)
I posted it on 1KProjects and SideProjectors. I got some offers on 1KProjects but I didn't have a Paypal account in order to pay the fee, so eventually, I posted it on SideProjectors, which is free (for now). And that's where I got a really great offer.
Then we discussed the details, I made an invoice for the customer, they paid me and then I transferred everything to them.
Thanks, that's awesome! Just discovered SideProjectors thanks to your comment. Another question maybe: how did you come up with a price ? Related to the MRR? Was it an exit b/c you wanted to focus on something else, or was it just a really good opportunity? I'm not interested in the price itself, but the process you had to reach the conclusion: what would be the price I'm going to sell?
I really liked to use my hourly rate to price the product, but that would make it too expensive.
At the same time, I needed to get some money in order to launch some other products, so I just calculated how much I needed and I asked for that price.
I kept getting higher bids until someone gave the highest bid so I contacted them, asked for a bit more, they accepted, and we closed the deal :)
In the future, however, I will take into consideration the income (I had none with this project), clients, and maybe Twitter followers. For this project, I only had backlinks from sites like LifeHacker.
PS. If you're trying to sell LinuxJobs, a common recommendation that I'm seeing these days is multiplying the monthly income 20~30 times.
Thanks a lot for your feedback! I also think next time you should define prices for your assets like Twitter followers, newsletter subscribers, etc and add this price to your final price because the assets of a side project can be very interesting by themselves.
I'm not actively trying to sell LinuxJobs, just taking information with more experienced indie hackers if I had an opportunity in 2020 ;)
