Data science, machine learning systems, and career growth.
Just hit 1,001 subscribers today! When I started the email list a year ago, I thought no one would be interested in signing up and getting emails about my weekly writing... boy was I wrong!
Perhaps the large number of essays (> 100 now) helped. Or perhaps I've found my niche (data/ML systems). We'll see.
For the longest time, I've been trying to share site statistics with the public. Over the weekend, I took some time to build this out with the Google Analytics Embed API. Now you can see it here: https://eugeneyan.com/metrics/
It was way more JavaScript than I was comfortable with—perhaps I should finally pick up js in 2021.

Every now and then, I reach out to people I admire and ask for a chat to learn about their journey so far. Recently, I got feedback from others hoping to hear about this as well.
Thus, I decided to spend a bit more time writing up my notes. Today, I published about interview with Chip Huyen on her career, writing, and machine learning. Readers like it; I'll probably make it a monthly affair.

Have been gaining about 2-3 subscribers a day and today it passed 500.
I had no idea that people would be interested in what I write about data science, learning, and career. But it's nice to share weeking thinking and writing with a bunch of friends, and to hear back from them on their views and feedback.

Today, my total number of subscribers passed 100. It's at 108 to be exact. Yesterday, it was 82.
This is because an article I wrote about my notetaking process (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23386630) trended #1 on HackerNews. And to think that I originally intended it to be the appendix to the previous week's article.

Today, I migrated my writing from Wordpress to Jekyll.
Wordpress was not flexible enough for my needs and I was itching to build my own site. It will also be great practice with basic front end and design.
For now, it's a basic combination of Jekyll, HTML, CSS, and JS, and will be hosted on GitHub pages.
