Without providing instructions for understanding and manipulating the plot.ly visualizations, you are relying on the user being willing to experiment - maybe that's the only type of user you're interested in attracting, but you risk losing many potential customers as a result.

In addition, the size of each underlying dataset is unclear unless the user performs some exploration.

For example, it was not immediately apparent that clicking on a school name in the pie chart legend was a toggle to remove or show that school in the pie chart (as opposed to, for example, some sort of drill-down).

Also, the data loading process was slower than expected, it unexpectedly affected both the top plot and the bottom plot, and the jumping around of the screen while loading the new dataset was distracting.

Comparing datasets apparently relies on the user's brain and memory (or downloading pngs) rather than being supported directly within the app.

So, the impression left by the landing page is that it is an incomplete and incompletely-thought-out implementation.

hey really appreciate this thorough review! agree that the current state of things is a bit incomplete -- the original thought was to offer some sample visualizations on the landing page to see which parts would be interesting to users. we didn't spend too much time refining the useability of the charts since we wanted to ship the landing page asap

it seems that we should brainstorm some ways to make the insights from this data more clear or at least explain more clearly who this is targeted to and how to use it

Looking neat.. but didn't really get an clear idea about the product.
Maybe you can add these in future.. Like it looks something to do with employment data.. but what do i do with it? How it works? Who's it for?

hey thanks for the feedback! those are great questions that we need to address on the next version --

      1. use it to research which companies to apply to when job searching
      2. look at companies you're interested and compare side-by-side (upcoming features)
      3. college students / professionals looking to switch companies
