December 22, 2025 10K readers to $0 revenue: Why we're launching a biotech skincare product

Hey IH! I'm Emma, co-founder of Exosthetics.

The journey so far:

  • Started publishing science-backed skincare content 2 years ago

  • Grew to 10,000+ monthly readers organically (SEO + educational approach)

  • $0 in revenue (pure content play)

  • Now launching our first product: exosome-powered post-procedure skincare

Why we're making this move:

For two years, we've been the "trusted source" for people recovering from aesthetic procedures—lasers, chemical peels, microneedling, etc. We'd get hundreds of questions asking: "What products should I actually use?"

The honest answer? Nothing on the market was purpose-built for this. People were buying $200 serums marketed for "sensitive skin" or getting generic samples from their dermatologist.

The opportunity we saw:

  • $60B+ aesthetic procedures market globally

  • Aftercare is an afterthought (most clinics just recommend CeraVe)

  • Exosome technology exists in clinical wound healing but not consumer skincare

  • We already had audience trust + domain expertise

The bet we're making:

We're building a biotech skincare brand that starts with one specific use case: post-procedure recovery. Not general anti-aging. Not "clean beauty." Recovery.

Early traction:

  • 150+ waitlist signups in first month

  • 3 aesthetic clinics want to stock it

  • Manufacturing partner secured (cosmetic + pharmaceutical grade)

The hard parts:

  • Regulatory complexity (FDA, claims testing)

  • High COGS (exosome tech isn't cheap)

  • Long sales cycles (people don't buy until they book a procedure)

Questions for IH:

  1. Anyone else made the content → product transition? What surprised you?

  2. How do you validate willingness to pay when your audience is used to free content?

  3. Should we prioritize D2C or B2B (selling to clinics) first?

Happy to share our content strategy, SEO approach, or product development process if helpful.
