January 2, 2023 I Don't Know How to Get Users

I've been trying to get users for my chrome extension an I don't know where to advertise.

Here is what I have tried so far:

  • Posting on my linkedin
  • Posting on my tiktok
  • Posting on my Snapchat
  • Creating an email list of users ready to use the app when it drops

Nothing has worked an I only have 2 people signed up. What should I do to get more people to try my extension? I just want to get feedback so I can make it better.

When you "post on my XxX", you assume that your audience is interested in your solution. I suggest you start from the other end -- try to come up with 5-10 niches that would be interested in your tool and reach them yourself.

A niche is, in this case, a group of people that has a common characteristic plus a way to reach them. For example, you may guess that recruiters write a lot of emails, and you can reach them through LinkedIn, so, your niche would be "recruiters on LinkedIn". Now, you can craft a copy specifically for recruiters and reach them on Linked in -- through DMs, for example. Or, if you target "recruiters on Facebook", you can post recruiter-specific ads on Facebook.

Of course, every niche has to have its own landing page.

It's very important to refine your message: once you have a few people who are eager to give you their feedback, you should use their answers to adjust your copy on the landing page (and, perhaps, on your ads). Ask them why they are interested and use it as the main benefit (use their exact wording). Ask if they have any doubts and resolve them in your FAQ section. Ask them where they spend their time online and use it to find more users.

That said, you should have done all this before building the product.

Totally get the frustration, what you've described is a bit vague (how have you shared it, how often have you shared it, did you get any engagement, etc).

    • How many people did you talk to for research as you built this?
    • What problem does this solve?
    • Who is your target user?
    • Where do they spend time online?
    • Why would they sign up for this?
    • How often would they use this and under what circumstances?
    • What value do they get?
    • Why should they give you their information?

These are not easy questions to answer, but they are critical to understanding where and how to market your product. As the adage goes "marketing to everyone is marketing to no one", so I would recommend identifying one core use case this serves and reaching that audience where they live online.

That could be a forum, slack community, reddit, etc - it will be dictated by who you are trying to reach.
