FantasyGen
AI-powered fantasy map generator for D&D game masters
Hey IH! 👋
I just launched FantasyGen, an AI-powered tool that generates fantasy maps from text descriptions.
The problem: As a D&D game master, I was spending 2-3 hours every week making battle maps. Inkarnate and Wonderdraft are powerful, but they have a steep learning curve and take time.
The solution: Type "a dark forest clearing with ancient stone ruins and a river" — get a beautiful, game-ready battle map in 30 seconds.
What it does:
- Battle maps, world maps, character portraits, and concept art
- Grid overlay system (square & hex) built for VTT platforms
- Export to Universal VTT format (Roll20, Foundry compatible)
- Multiple art styles: parchment, watercolor, sci-fi, classic fantasy
Tech stack: Next.js, Vercel, Stripe, Redis, Tailwind CSS
Monetization: Credit-based pay-as-you-go model. No subscriptions.
I'd love feedback from fellow indie hackers — especially if you play tabletop RPGs. What would make this more useful for you?
About
As a D&D game master, I spent hours every week preparing maps for my campaigns — searching Google Images, tweaking things in Photoshop, and still ending up with mediocre results.
