November 30, 2022 Getting traffic to the Feature Flux Landing page

So, they tell you to add your new product to all of the SaaS directories. The theory behind this is solid, you need to boost your domain ranking with Google. What they don't tell you is that most of the incoming traffic from sites such as Betalist is of very low value. What do I mean by that? They typically bounce straight out! When we visit sites like Betalist we tend to be in "browse" mode.

Of course the caveat to this, is that it depends on the type of SaaS you're building. It may well be an easy sell, or free to use, a B2C freebie. In which case you can do very well from these kinds of directories . But when you're market is B2B, it can be discouraging to see such high bounce rates.

I know over time, as the traffic from these sites calms down, the bounce rate will improve. But seeing high bounce rates and low signups is a downer, I can't deny it.

So, recently I've started focusing on content (as well as social media, but that's another topic). Content that's more focused on long-term traffic. Content that is related to the type of customer I want to attract. I did this at my first SaaS (nusii.com) and the payoff was huge. In fact it was pretty much the only marketing we did for years and managed to build a business that supported myself and my co-founder full time.

The downside to content building and SEO? It takes so damn long! There's no immediate payoff.

To give you an example of what I'm writing, here are a couple of examples. I think I need to be posting at least once a week. More is impossible with everything else in my life.

Have you done anything interesting that's brought the right kind of visitor to your product's website?

Cheers

What about guest posting instead of posting on your own site? That way, you could expose your content to existing audiences.

You could write longer content for your blog in one week and one or two shorter guest posts the other week that reference your first week's post on your blog.

That way, you don't promote your product but your blog.
    And you gain backlinks.
    And you expand your network.
And you don't have to wait for the traffic that long while also strengthening your SEO muscle.

      Thanks Karsten.

I have started guest posting and building backlinks. But I like the idea of two shorter pieces pointing to a longer piece on my site.

Is this something you've had success with?

Haha, I have to admit that I just came up with that idea when commenting on your post. But I'll give it a shot, too. :-)

November 28, 2022 MVP is nearly done

Feature Flux started early this year as an idea, an idea to improve the design process for product teams. It's been a long, drawn out affair if I'm honest. I've put far more research into this than I ever did with my first SaaS, nusii.com

As a non-technical founder, the hard part is finding a developer or co-founder to take over this aspect of the product. At Nusii, I chose to go down the co-founder road, but with Feature Flux I want to stay the sole founder.

I have struggled to find a developer who could build the product on budget (in the end the MVP quote was $2000 over). And it's stressful waiting for someone else to fulfill your vision. It's also stressful waiting for them to deliver, when they miss deadlines :(

But, it's getting closer. I hope I can soon say, "Beta is ready!"
