Feedgrab
A modern, beautiful, FREE RSS reader
Feedgrab is an app that I wanted. There are plenty of RSS readers out there but I couldn't find one I was happy with. They were either web-based with a UI that I didn't enjoy using, or they were iOS apps which didn't work on Mac or Windows.
Modern web tech is so good that I figured you could have a simple but enjoyable to use experience on both web (regardless of browser or OS) and mobile, as a PWA (i.e. Add To Home Screen). I built the first version of Feedgrab in around 2 weeks that did just this!
RSS is a techie product, no doubt about it. This is a shame as it's such a useful protocol. To try and lower the barrier to entry I also built a Chrome extension that sits on your toolbar and highlights when a site you're visiting has an active RSS feed. Clicking the icon subscribes you to that feed in Feedgrab. It doesn't really get much simpler than this.
I'm hoping that by making the product free I can get enough active users and feed data that will allow Feedgrab to start recommending new feeds based on your existing ones. This will allow you to discover new blogs, news websites with relative ease – something that I find a bit difficult myself right now. A "Feedgrab Weeky" email might be a good place to start with this.
I might add a premium tier in the future to adds Instapaper-like functionality for saving individual articles to read later, but for the time being I'm focusing on the FREE product and trying to get feedback from my beta customers (which has been pretty positive so far!).
