The Mac app that makes organizing files a breeze

July 19, 2023 I crossed 300$ in revenue after 2 months

I crossed 300$ of revenue in just two months. This feels so great!

I started out with a Reddit post that made around $100 in the end. Later, I did some advertising on a deals site to promote the upcoming pro package. Users are allowed to pay what they want before the launch to get the pro package then. This accounts for around $200 of my revenue.

I also tried other community/forums/sites. But none of them really took off at all. It is not easy to find the best spots where my target audience is.

Question to solve: How to reach $1000 in the next 4 weeks?

June 3, 2023 Release: v0.13

I have just uploaded v0.13 of FileFillet. It contains the two most requested features. An integrated auto updater (same as many other Mac apps use), and the possibility to customize the position of the drop area handle.

Now I need to get back to increasing the number of downloads.

May 25, 2023 I crossed 100$ in revenue after 7 days

I can't believe it. I crossed 100$ of revenue in just 7 days for a free product. My mind is blown. I'm surprised and I don't understand. But it seems it was a good decision to provide the app via Gumroad for free, with an option to pay. People have. And it feels good.

Now the question is: How do I make 200$ in the next 7 days?

Great going. How are you acquiring customers?

I did a Reddit post a week ago. That's the only "marketing" (if you can actually call it like this) I did so far.

      Here's the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/macapps/comments/13kwr4k/filefillet_the_mac_app_that_makes_copyingmoving/

I added a comment there with a short description. That's it. I am now trying to share the app in other subs and media as well. Step by step.

I've just downloaded it and added some folders but not sure how to use it. I have 2 other screens plugged into my mac.

UPDATE: Never mind, I just didn't see the little tab!
Very cool product! Defo need some explainer on what to do when you first open it. I opened the app and nothing happened. Noticed it was in my menu bar so opened and configured it from there, and then didn't see the little tab on the left.

      Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback, and totally agree to this. I received this feedback multiple times now. Need to improve this.

May 18, 2023 An MVP in 2 days, or 100

Yes, the first MVP just took 2 days. Lots of issues, but you could see where the idea was going.

But still, it somehow didn't feel right. I showed this to others, and I alway had to explain this. Twice. Or even 3 times until it was understood. Then it was perceived as a good idea. But I didn't know how to market this.

So I reached out to some designers and they basically opened my eyes in a way that I revamped the design completely. Not it was clear in just a 4 seconds video what the app does and how it brings value.

So the actual MVP took way more than 2 days.

November 8, 2022 How a comment led to me learning Swift

Where I work full time, we copy and move files around quite often. Mainly logs for the software that we work on. And we have quite a lot of them. On Mac, I start to open new Finder windows quite often as I loose track of all the paths that are in some Finder windows somewhere.

So a colleague of mine just said that he wanted to have an app, that shows connected USB flash drives as soon as they pop up. Just a bit on the side of the screen where the USB port is where the drive is plugged in to.

And I immediately said: I'll make you a prototype within 2 days. And for this, I had to learn Swift. That's how it started.

About

I copy and move files around quite often. But I end up loosing track of all the open Finder windows. So I thought about a simpler, more convenient tool to finish this task. Without any window.
