FileShot.io

Zero-knowledge encrypted file sharing — no account needed

March 2, 2026 I built FileShot because I was tired of file sharing platforms making the wrong tradeoffs

Every file sharing platform I tried made me choose: pay for good encryption, or use a free service with no real privacy. Some "privacy-first" services even ask for your name on signup — which tells you everything about how much they actually value privacy.

So I built FileShot.io.

The technical implementation: files are encrypted with AES-256-GCM entirely in your browser before upload. The decryption key never leaves your device — it lives only in the URL fragment. The server receives and stores only ciphertext. This is real zero-knowledge, not marketing copy.

What I refused to lock behind accounts or paywalls:

- Password-protected links (most services charge for this)

- Unlimited file size — 50GB per file, no cap on storage

- P2P mode: WebRTC direct transfer where files don't touch our servers at all

- File previews on every download page

- A full tool suite

The only reason to create an account is persistent file management — because that actually makes sense. Not to access features that should be free by default.

I'm a CIS student and I've been building this as a passion project for 3 months. Every day I'm tweaking the UX, removing friction, and pushing the limits up. I went from modest file size limits to fully unlimited because I have the infrastructure and I genuinely just want to make the best version of this.

Desktop app, Chrome extension, and PWA also available.

Happy to answer any questions about the encryption implementation, P2P architecture, or anything else.
