Flats
rental apartments directory & more
It's been 2 weeks since the website went live. I have already got some traction and could get some feedback. Time was spent on 2 major aspects:
- marketing
- I started with Facebook ads, as it's going to be the top part of my traffic in the following months. Unfortunately, I found it too expensive for now to give a real try. From what I did there were some redirections to the website, but none of them resulted in the signup.
- Later I abandoned it and started with organic marketing - sending direct messages to members of groups that are related to my app. Here I was worried about people's reactions, but on the other, I saw it as an opportunity for those people to increase their audience quite easily. Luckily, the second option fits them, and nobody complained to me that they got were spammed.
One more thing, that I have to resolve somehow - a lot of people reacted positively way: writing me a message or thumbing up, but just a percent of them actually took an action.
Anyway, this seems to be the easiest way for getting leads, but probably I will ask somebody for helping me with that, as it's very time-consuming.
- improvements
- The website was still very buggy after going live. I have focused on making "add an advert" flow working better and a bit more intuitive (that's what I planned from the beginning, but outsourcing had its limitations)
- I turned off all not fully tested and not ready modules of the app, like internal messaging, subscriptions, etc. They are a low priority for now.
- Finally, I spent some time on SEO - it's far away from being perfect, but at least automatic sitemap and some meta attributes were added
The next milestone should be probably focus on landing pages that give value to the user. That is the easiest place to lose people who are not convinced yet and just entered a new website.
And... so far it sucks.
Finally some statistics after 2 weeks:
- 14 registered users and most of them put some ad
- 24 ads placed (some of them created by me to not present people empty website)
- 230 unique users (all from FB)
Some external developer was hired to create a backbone for the application, as I can't commit too much time to it. Later it took some weeks to make adjustments and bug fixing and finally it is live.
For audience targeting there are already several community groups build on Facebook over last couple of years, so hopefully there will be some traction and feedback soon.
About
I had several attempts to build this project since 2014. Finally, I went live with some MVP (or even a prototype version) in beginning of 2020. My idea is to simplify process of rental apartment search and booking
